39. R.J. Cole, UConn (transfer): Dan Hurley's team has NCAA tournament hopes this season, and the Huskies' point guard will be Cole -- who averaged 21.4 points and 6.4 assists at Howard in 2018-19. There has been positive buzz about Cole for over a year now.

Next 10: Andre Jackson, UConn; Tyrese Martin, UConn

This is out of 80 players. so the fact that Andre Jackson didn't crack the top 80 is mind boggling.

If Andre isn't within the top 50 freshman/newcomers at the end of the season, something will have gone very wrong.

is that surprising? he was ranked just inside the top 80 for freshmen and this list also includes transfers

He finished #50 in the 247 Composite, so yes it's a little surprising.

He's ranked #50 in the composite and ranked #35 by ESPN, considering ESPN did this newcomer list it's strange.

Yeah there are a lot of transfers this year since it's essentially a double year (hardly anyone got waivers last year, everyone got them this year). Transfers are upperclassmen, so generally they'll be better than a non-5* freshman. There's reason to hope that Andre has been underrated based on too much importance placed on his one obvious weakness (which reports indicate he may have improved).

I'm a bit lost on the criteria vs the headline title. Ranking based on the quality of the player vs impact to a team's fortunes is quite a different ranking depending on who else a team has. I think Hunter Dickenson is going to have a 'huge' impact on Michigan in terms of how they play and results, but I wouldn't rate him as the best player. Jackson would have a huge impact if he needed to be our 'go to' guy, but he is really frosting on the cake. RJ Cole will clearly have a greater impact than Jackson this year, because we will be relying on him more with the ball in his hands, but I doubt if he is really the better player. eh, In the end it's just something to help pass the time to real ball.
