Well, here we are again. For the first time in memory this time of year, we are healthy and have depth. So here are my top 3 things:

1) Ridiculously tight defense with pressing and textbook switching.

2) Great assist to field goals made percentage with everyone playing with great focus and energy under Paige's leadership.

3) Aubrey.

What are yours?

1. Guard the perimeter: The Red Wolves shoot the 3 Ball
2. Show Arkansas State that "everyone eats" (on defense, aka
getting steals and crashing the boards for rebounds) is more potent than their "playing fast".
3. UCONN plays a full rotation: Allie, Q, and Carol all put in some quality time!

1. Azzi/Ash need to shoot and make their shots. If they can prove they're a real threat on the arc, other teams will scramble to try ad cover them, Paige and Sarah. Establish early who the threats are. If I remember correctly, Ash had a 26 PT game in the first round last year...

2. Continue to show up with intensity on defense. There is no room for sloppy quarters in the Big Dance.

3. Rebound. Our bracket has Oklahoma and USC, who are both teams with great rebounders.

1) Aubrey and Caroline, including some first-half time for Caroline

2) Jana and Ice get at least 20 minutes apiece including 5-10 minutes together

3) Ashlynn hits some mid-range shots

Just 3 simple things...
  1. Win
  2. Win by a lot
  3. Win with everyone playing well for as close to 40 minutes as possible
This is not the time of year for "everybody eats" or "let's give lots of minutes to players who won't play in the later rounds". This is the time of year where Geno stops harping on what they are doing wrong, need to improve, and teach new things. He now focuses on being better at, and encouraging the things they do well.

It's also the time of year where the rotations get shorter and the team has to focus on being at 100% for as much of the game as possible. I'd like to see a LOT of whatever rotations Geno feels will be playing in the harder games in later rounds. Carol, Q, and Allie can all come in the last 6 minutes or so for some fun.

I'd like to see a heavy dose (30+ minutes) of full court press, as well as swarming defense with lots of switching, help side, and double teams. Liberal subbing with our core 9 if the kids get tired at all. Paige, Azzi, Sarah, Cait, Jana, Ash, Aubrey, KK, and Ice. The past several years, this team has had to deal with playing 6 (or at most 7) players in big games. I hope they continue to fine tune the core group for what awaits as they advance...

Congrats to Arkansas St. for their first time in the Tourney. Sorry for them that they have to face Uconn. Welcome to the BIG BOYS CLUB. This is where the cream is separated from the curd. This game will be a practice session for Uconn and give the bench some minutes and play. Foregone conclusion and ready for ALL COMERS! GO HUSKIES!!!!!
