After a great night and #1217 at Gampel, it's back to work against Oregon State in the Bahamas. The FDU game was notable for several non-historic reasons to me including Azzi's return and a "now you know why I was the #1 recruit if you hadn't figured it out yet " statement from Sarah with 4 successive perfect stroke 3 bombs and her usual full stat sheet. Her defense is a completely unexpected bonus as well which complements an almost too easy all around game. So here are my top 3 things:

1) Azzi to have a very good shooting game. "It's coming".

2) The team defense to get tighter and even better, which we will need next against Ole Miss.

3) Jana to make a couple or three layups and get going upward in her development again.

You have any?

1. MY summary statement: "EVERYBODY EATS"!
2. Jana to have a solid game against the "Beaver Bigs":
6'5" Kelsey Rees, a senior from South Australia
and 6'7" Heidi Sela, a senior from North Bend, Washington
3. A quick start so that Azzi and everyone in the full rotation get plenty of
court time.
3A.... A WIN!

1. Continued growth of synergy between Sarah and Ice (as well as Sarah and Jana). I'd like these to really control the key and especially the baseline against zone defenses.

2. More scoring and aggressiveness from Chen going to the hoop. Beating her defender off the dribble. If not scoring them kicking it back out to open perimeter players rather than dribbling it back out.

3. Similar to #2, i'd look to see Ashlyn step up in the mid-range, she is more than capable in this area (similar to how Paige plays it). She has a beautiful pull up jump shot, let's get it going.

All three of these thoughts are designed to put pressure on the opposition's interior defense, hopefully opening up the perimeter for our excellent shooters.

I am assuming that this game will be UCONN's biggest test to date, I want ( ! ) the defense to limit O.S. to 50 points. ( 2 ) Every player get their MOJO going and score. ( 3 ) Start fast and finish strong. As in SARAH!!!! GO HUSKIES!!!!

I don't think it will be much of test. Oregon State is really bad. They are 1-3 and lost by 35 to Minnesota

1. 6 UConn players in double digit scoring
2. Hang a 100+ on the Beavers
3. Sarah with a triple double

Scott Rueck loses 7 to the portal last season and he still has 3 bigs including one at 6'7" -- where does he find them? It's like he's a magician. But, yes, Minnesota scorched them, a team featuring 4 of Paige's HS teammates or friends. I'd rather see us play Minnesota again.

Given their bigs and a speedy athletic wing in Ferreira, my 3 things are:
  1. Jana rises to the new challenge against their bigs
  2. Azzi finds the range
  3. Sarah notches her first triple double

#1. I want to see the bigs get more comfortable under the basket when surrounded....mostly hang onto the ball and get their balance and footwork right.

#2. I want to see our shooters (Paige, Shade, Allie, and Azzi) to have a good night...right around 50%.

#3. Run and gun!!! play super D and get that running game going. (and PLEASE make the layups)

Thank you. I was swayed by Zarathrustra's post about a 6'5" and a 6'7" player. I'll have to do better research.
Dear NEXT 12: Sorry about the 6'5" and 6' 7" BEAVERS comment leading you astray! I knew the Oregon State
team was not strong as a team (they should be killed by Illinois tonight, Friday). However, this could
be a good test for JANA as I noted in my thread note #2. The more practice JANA gets against
"senior" players, the better she will be when it counts...March and April! My apologies!!!

Well...I'd LIKE to see the game on TV but won't be able to do that.

So...a question: I'll be following the chat thread...but posters
rarely tell the score. Is there a rule against that?

Say a player makes a trey. What happens is that 2 or 3 posts
mention the basket...within 20 or 30 seconds. Unless they post the score
a reader doesn't know if we have made just one trey and they are talking
about the same basket...or if we have made 2.

If not on every post I would love it if fans frequently would write the score of the game so
readers would know it.

Are there Boneyard policies on not doing this?

The test will be the next one against Ole Miss. They were tied with South Carolina with 12 or so seconds to go, had the ball, and gave the game away.

Three Things (1st of 4 games before Notre Dame):
  • Show flashes of really beautiful UConn offense with Paige, Azzi and Sarah on the court at the same time;
  • Improve in making open shots (less nerves) in more reps of the half-court offense;
  • Make a pronounced statement on defense, with several opponent scoring droughts.
Already priced-in:
  • With enough seasoning, this team is primed to dominate most of its competition.

I thought it was on Flo sports. Is this incorrect?
