They really looked good against UL. In fact, at times, in person, they looked great. There is just no other way to say it. Sure they doubled and muscled Paige but she knew it and actually made everyone else better by creating open looks due to the double on her for Azzi, Sarah, KC, and Ash. This is a different test on Thursday and the biggest one so far of the year. Two very good, very quick guards, a savvy forward, power, and a definite home court advantage. It's just a great match up with a Final Four type atmosphere and I think it will have high ratings because of the teams, the history and guess what, because women's basketball has arrived baby in a way it never has before. Having said all that here are my top 3 things:

1) Azzi to be well and able to play.

2) The referees to control the physicality. They did not do it when ND played USC.

3) Everyone that wears our jersey to realize that this game is all about everyone doing their respective jobs out there and to play 40 solid minutes.

I'm sure you have some for this game. What are they?

1. As with everyone else, Azzi to be "fine", as Geno put it.
2. Keep Hidalgo, Miles and Citron under control...the 3 had 69 points and 31 rebounds against Syracuse.
3. Knowing it will be physical, I am hoping for no injuries...a win, yes, but healthy will lead to bigger and better in the coming months.

ND has as good a guard group as any. And tough at home. It will be a challenge.

1. Take the ball to the basket. ND has struggled with that defensively which may cause them to play zone again.
2. Take advantage of the Sarah Strong mismatch.
3. Officials who don't fall for Hidalgo's histrionics. She's another in a long line of ND players who fall down when breathed upon.

I have been waiting for this game as I believe this win will convince everyone UCONN is real and deserving of NO 1 rating. ( 1 ) SARAH, ICE and JANA dominate the boards. ( 2 ) The defense control Hidalgo ,Miles and Citron. ( 3 ) The bench play like they are the starting five and score. AZZI plays the rest of the year healthy. GO HUSKIES!!!!!!

In an earlier 3 Things post I highlighted Ashlynn's need to hit her mid-range jump shots, she did that beautifully against UL last night. I watched some of the ND-Texas game and while ND's guards are impressive as has been discussed, I was less impressed with their frontcourt.

So here goes:
1) Ashlynn et al, continue to hit the mid-range jumpers.
2) Find a way to control ND's guards, especially in run outs and fast breaks. That means controlling the boards.
3) When Jana and Ice are in the game together, I'd like to see Ice play more of Sarah's game e.g. better shooting away from the basket, facilitating play, getting steals.

1. Azzi playing. I wanted this to be somewhat of a revenge game for her. She was really playing well last night.
2. Paige playing well. Revenge game for her as well. I don't think Citron or anyone can guard her. She got good shots last year just didn't shoot well. I do think she's struggled in some marque games recently.
3. Kaitlyn Chen double figures. She's super solid. She'll have her hands full guarding Hidalgo and or Miles. I'm sure Hidalgo will try to take her soul and constantly hound her and stab at the balll. But I'd like to see her break out a bit offensively. She has the size and the skill
4. KK Arnold impact
5. Ice playing well

I live 2 miles from the ND campus.
My job takes me over by the campus about 5 times a day.
I drive around South Bend with a UCONN vanity plate
on the front of my car.

I want to see the Huskies just WIN, baby!!!

1. Azzi fully active
2. Paige getting back into her scoring groove
3. A full healthy team at the end of the game
Right . We do not win this game without at least a typical Paige performance.

1. I want Paige to be the best guard on the court. I don’t think we can lose if that happens.
2. Dominate Koval. We should be able to keep her very quiet and make her look like she is not ready for a game of this magnitude.
3. Start well. This our first true road game of the season. But we have a lot of experienced players. And we should not be rattled by playing in a hostile environment. We don’t want to fall into a big hole. In fact, I would love to win the first quarter.

1. Azzi.

2. Sarah takes charge of the frontcourt and decimates ND’s post presences. Koval may be 3 inches taller but Sarah plays like she’s 6’5.

3. Paige needs a good game. Her last two have been pretty rough offensively, so obviously this means she’s going to drop 30 on Sonia Citron ;), after all, 3rd times the charm.

Also a 4th: I want to see ND try and pick who they want to double: Sarah, Azzi, or Paige. And I want to see one of those three drop 20 on them because of it.
