This past Sunday they unveiled the top 16 teams as determined by the committee.

Here is how they stood as of noon on Sunday:

1UCLA (No. 1 seed -- Spokane 1)
2South Carolina (No. 1 seed -- Birmingham 2)
3Texas (No. 1 seed -- Birmingham 3)
4Notre Dame (No. 1 seed -- Spokane 4)
5Southern California
6LSU
7UConn
8NC State
9TCU
10Duke
11North Carolina
12Kansas State
13Kentucky
14Ohio State
15Oklahoma
16Tennessee

There was a lot of movement since yesterday so I thought we could discuss and predict the new ranks.

My prediction after last night:

1 UCLA (No. 1 seed -- Spokane 1)
2 Texas (No. 1 seed -- Birmingham 2)
3 Notre Dame (No. 1 seed -- Birmingham 3)
4 Southern California (No. 1 seed -- Spokane 4)
5 UConn
6 South Carolina
7 LSU

8 TCU
9 North Carolina

10 Duke
11 NC State
12 Kansas State
13 Kentucky
14 Ohio State
15 Oklahoma
16 Tennessee

I believe only South Carolina, LSU and NC State lost last night, so I tried to adjust accordingly. I think the biggest movement is that the South Carolina loss bumps them down to a 2 seed and opens the door for Southern Cal to move to the 1 line.

TCU as the #8 team feels odd. There seems to be a fairly large gap between the #7 and #8 teams.

Committtee ain’t dropping SC 4 spots after 1 loss. Resume too strong. They’re prob #3.

It's probably my pessimism after watching us get dominated at home. I just checked out Creme's bracket and he has us as the #4 team.

The new NET is updated. UConn #1, SC#2.

Doesn't make sense for UConn, but nice.:D

Makes plenty of sense for SC. Strongest schedule and most Quad1 wins.

Ladeeeda has it right in post4.

Still plenty of action before next reveal.

Actually, I think Texas has one more NET win than SCar after beating LSU while we lost.

I was surprised Oklahoma was a top 16 seed. Because I think they have sort of struggled during conference play.

I think the top 8 is:
1. UCLA
2. Texas
3. Notre Dame
4. South Carolina
5. Southern Cal
6. UCONN
7. LSU
8. TCU

Despite yesterday's blowout, South Carolina's collection of wins is as good as anyones and all 3 losses are to top teams. I think as long as they win their final regular season games and make the SEC Championship game they'll safely be on the 1 line.

Looking at the top 7 I see teams that could beat or have beaten each other. The seeding is based on a season but the NCAA champ will be the team playing best at that time. I'm much more concerned with UConn's opponent in the E8 than their seeding. The seedings are set but a lot can happen in the next 5 weeks. There will be some one seed coaches whining about their two seed.

In a crazy sort of way, it hurts the SEC to have too many really good teams. Because all those teams have to play each other (and sometimes twice), it makes the likelihood of picking up an untimely loss that much higher. When there are a lot of teams with really similar records, one loss might make a difference.

I was thinking about this. The #1 overall team will have a huge advantage due to the giant gap in talent between #7 and #8. In theory, that team won't face any true threats until the final four, whereas the #2-4 teams could have absolute gauntlets in the elite 8. Just look at the potential elite 8 matchups from @bballnut90 's list:

1 UCLA vs. 8 TCU
2 Texas vs. 7 LSU
3 Notre Dame vs. 6 UConn
4 South Carolina vs. 5 USC

Like, I've never seen such a tough elite 8 with 3 out of the 4 games basically being a coin flip.

Worth noting—based on the reveal the committee will keep the SEC teams in separate regionals to avoid an Elite 8 matchup. If seedings hold, there’s a good chance the higher seed of Texas or South Carolina will draw the #8 seed instead of UCLA. My guess is the actual regional matchups would be:
UCLA/LSU
Texas/TCU
Notre Dame/UCONN
South Carolina/USC

I agree that the top 7 look head and shoulders better than the rest of the country right now, but it’s always premature to count your eggs before they hatch.

The last time I felt like there was a clear division between the top teams and the rest of the country was 2016 when UCONN was undefeated, SC/Notre Dame both had just one loss to UCONN, and Baylor had just one loss as well. I thought all 4 were locks for the Final Four, but only UCONN made it there.

I agree on the elite eight opponent being the important thing. And I think the key is to avoid UCLA and Notre Dame. (I would have said South Carolina a week ago).

I think Texas or USC is who we want to be bracketed with.

Out friend Hailey Van Lith printing our posts right now as bulletin board material.:p

Hailey Van Lith hopes to see Louisville and LSU in her bracket, maybe throw Oregon/Washington in for an early round.

Her sidekick Prince is excited about tourney weight rooms, and possible game check.
