It's kind of weird we haven't been involved with him. Kid just puts the ball in the basket and shot about 55% from three in KC EYBL. We really need shooting and the kid lives less than an hour from campus. Picked up offers from UNC, Kansas, and UCLA.

I would imagine the staff heard he wasn't interested for whatever reason, we were involved and offered him almost 2 years ago (September 2020). One of the first 2023 kids we offered. Ironically the offer was mocked by people who thought he was a bad basketball player who didn't deserve it

Yup, we offered a long, long time ago.

I remember all of that but don't remember us recruiting him in well over a year. I just hate missing out on these local shooters, it seems like every season we're complaining we don't have enough shooting.

Unable to edit my post- I guess I should've said it's weird it seems the staff hasn't been involved with him in a very long time.

He's not Big East, or UConn good. A-10 level is more his speed. If he does end up at a high level school, he's going to sit on the bench all year and transfer down. Bookmark this post.

I am in Worcester, know people who work at Worc Academy and it seems he indicated over a year ago his plan was to leave the area for college. Iowa seemed like a lock…then Virginia…but now that the big boys are involved all bets are off on which he chooses.

I’m just south of Worcester!

I guess we can add him to the list

Marcus Camby
Rocket Rod Foster
John Pinone
Michael Adams
Ewing
Jensen
Gminski

….. and a couple more

Seems like this is the case of a kid from Worcester who may not want to spend 4 years in the exciting metropolis that is Storrs, CT. Can't fault any HS kid for feeling that way. It's not a new problem. Some kids, especially city kids, really like the relative calm and safety of Storrs. I lived in Shrewsbury, MA when I moved back east from California. It's a decent suburb of Boston that borders Worcester on the west side.

It's always possible that the staff dropped the ball, but the fact that we offered over a year ago and we aren't recruiting him now leads me to believe he's not interested in UConn.

That's not what everyone is seeing who are watching him play recently. Picked up offers from Kansas, UNC and UCLA recently. Not exactly schlub programs.

But I hear you. I saw him play a bunch when he was a freshman and sophomore at St. John's. He was soft and not really a wing. The soft part really bothered me. But he was a freshman and sophomore playing varsity so he had plenty of time to get better. He repeated his sophomore year at Worcester Academy so I haven't seen him in over 2 years.

You also have to remember that his skillset is similar to Karaban and Karaban is only a year ahead. So like when Ollie said he didn't recruit Kris Dunn because he had Shabazz and Boatright, sometimes a recruit just doesn't fit what you need on your roster. I completely trust the staff on this one.

These two cities are over an hour apart…
What's your point? Shrewsbury is indeed a Boston suburb. You can drive over an hour and not leave the city limits of Houston or LA. Shrewsbury does also have people who work at UMass Medical or the biotech park on the east side of Worcester, obviously. Most drive east to work though.

But what do people in MA consider a "suburb" of Boston? Anything inside of 495??
Anything touching 495 on either side of it, but Shrewsbury is an exception of sorts because Rt 9 and I-290 give it rapid routes to the East. plus people are pushing further out to towns like Blackstone, Upton, Northbridge as prices rise.

In any event, Shrewsbury is pretty boring and the kid probably wants someplace more exciting than Storrs. Can't blame him.

I'm more confused by our lack of recruitment with Isaiah Coleman... top 40ish ranked 2023 player (with ties to Solo and Ross) that has stated that he grew up a UConn fan... and we simply haven't offered
i was too but then it was pointed out that for a top 50 recruit he only has 2 high major offers. something is up with him and staff decided to stay away.

We were probably at one of the same games

any money on certain posters coming in to dispute the "suburb/city" distinction and also that a kid would have that opinion of Storrs, indeed a bustling metropolis?
