BTW, don't remember if this is in the column (too lazy to look back), but UCLA's record during its 7-year streak of championships was 205 wins with 5 losses. The average margin of victory in 1972 was 30 points.
 
My comments would probably end up being too political - but it is MUCH wider spread than just sports. We codified in the constitution and bill of rights religious freedom, we fought an internal war related to racism and slavery, and lastly we had a social movement for women's suffrage. It is indeed an imperfect union and none of the above were in any stretch the solutions to the broad issues. There have been further advances for each, but we seem to be in a period of 'backsliding' on all fronts in a disturbingly vocal and populist way.
I think I skirted the 'too political' in the above.
