From Nan's Morning Search - http://www.mwcconnection.com/2013/7...american-mountain-west-champions-bowl-matchup

It's a MWC centric article but you get the gist:

"One idea that has been around for some time now is a call for an American-MW Champions Bowl or East-West Champions Bowl---call it whatever you like. It would pit the AAC No. 1 against the MWC No. 1 in a matchup of conference champions from both sides of the country. In the event a team from either conference qualifies for the automatic berth in one of the six access bowls they could send their No. 2 to the bowl championship game."

At this point does Aresco really have a better option? I think this makes sense.

Their regular season champion should play our champion in a playoff with the winner more than likely going to the final BCS game.
The leagues would have to merge. They should have merged into a 16 team league two years ago when realignment started.

It would be a natural progression of things. The bowl system changed seismically a little over a year ago. As bastardized, and biased as the playoff will be in 2014, it's still a bracket of 4 teams, where the existence of something like that for over a 130 years was unfathomable in college football. That's fact.

I believe the movement toward a true playoff system now is inevitable. The money mongers and corrupt system will fight it, but the fans (and media) will eventually demand it. Conference champions will need to end up playing each other in a playoff bracket.

The only thing that really holds up the progress toward a true playoff bracket of conference champions for a national championship now - is the remaining independants, and not even all of them - just Notre Dame. I can't be sure, but I don't see any reason why BYU and Army would fight joining a conference, should it happen. Navy is already set to join a conference.

I wouldn't be surprised at all - to see the champions of the AAC and the MWC play each other as a top bowl game, if either or both champions do not qualify for the 4 team playoff in 2014. I'd wager - if I were a wagering man - that game - would draw a lot more attention than the #3,4,5,6,7 matchups that are set among in-club of conferences.

We have a few locations that could host what would be a legit competitor to the established bowls. Maybe even BCS level interest.

This is a good way of making the most of a difficult situation for both conferences. Could be a nice bowl. I say go for it.
