During the year this young lady came out of Uconn I knew in my gut she was first round material. And if I am not mistaken - correct me if I'm wrong - she was taken in the 2nd round.

Well one thing is for sure, she's Definately a main stay - WNBA - talented player.

I bet those teams who passed up on Hayes in the 1st round wish they hadn't. But hey, everyone was addressing needs I assume.

But who didn't need a good defender, a scorer, a penatrator, rebounder, (A Shape Shifter)? Lol...Oops, and lest I forget (A Slasher). She reminds me of that animated movie Bearwolf. Correct it if I spelled it wrong please.

"I am defender, I am scorer, I am fast, penatrator, I am slasher! I am BearWolf!" lol.

Ha ha...yea that's it. Do your thing Miss Hayes. I always knew you had it in ya. Consistency taste sweet. Ain't It.

Now before some of you start tripping in your britches. I know she's not a wolf...BearHuskie maybe?

You're right. Hayes was the second (14th over all) player taken in the 2nd round in the 2012 WNBA draft.
Look at the 13 players that were taken before her. Some of the players taken in front of her are no longer in the league.
Tiff is still ballin, and ballin hard!. How many players that were drafted in the second round with her are still in the league?

Tiff came to UConn highly touted and had a very nice career. The only real "knock" on Tiff was that she got over-amped and struggled in big games when she was the primary scoring option her senior year, relative to her talent and performance in other games. Being the second or third option, whether behind Tina and Maya or behind Angel, seems to be a good fit for her. Tiff had a VERY efficient senior year at UConn, shooting high percentages. There were some games when she was THE best player on the floor, even when Maya was playing. She is one of the best #14 pics ever. In that draft, picks #1-5 are all doing well. Of the rest, maybe only Dantas and Riquna Williams are still in the league.

Here's what Tiff is doing this season:

16.7 ppg (11th in the league, just behind Stewie)

4.9 boards (26th)

2.4 assists (tied for 28th)

1.6 steals (tied for 15th)

58.1% shooting (3rd!)

35.0% 3-point percentage (tied for 18th)

77.6% FT shooting (36th)

Those are All-Star numbers. I hope she gets strong consideration.

Her team is 6-1 and has a 2.5 game lead over NY and Chicago.

Personally I was generally pretty fond of her in a UConn uniform. She was a little bit criticized in college, because (essentially) she couldn't measure up to Maya Moore's ability to take over a game or carry the team on her back. Which was true...but then, few can do it like Maya. She may not be "franchise player" material, but she's a fantastic Robin to someone's Batman. A Pippin-esque player, if you will. And it's carried over extremely well into the pros, as the numbers show.

Ok, even after two large cups of coffee this am, I'm still in the dark on what the numbers after the players' names mean?

Me either. I cut and pasted those rounds from Wikipedia. I don't remember Wiki making reference to them. Sorry. Maybe someone else here can enlighten us.

I think the numbers refer to the previous season's win-loss record for the team that selected the player.

I remember when the draft occurred and several of us were floored at NY's throw away pick in the 1st round of Cain. There were some who disagreed, but it was a truly awful pick.

Having said that, Hayes is having quite the season. I think there are many things she's done well, but one thing I've noticed in games is that she almost never takes a bad shot. That's one reason her FG% is so high... But for a guard who shoots the 3 to be up around 60%, just WOW!!

She's having the better career of all who was drafted before her except for Nnemkadi Ogwumike. Would of loved it if Phoenix drafted her with DT. Wonder if they fight for number 3

I was looking at this year's WNBA draft. ALL of the first round players made the cut with their respective teams. Most of the second round players were cut. Some notable names that were cut:
Niya Johnson - G (Baylor) Jordan Jones - G Texas A&M). Third round - Only Nirra Fields - G (UCLA/Phoenix) made the cut. Drafting IS a delicate science. It seems there are more misses that hits.

In Tiff's senior season, she shot .503/.407/.808. She also averaged 5.8 boards and recorded 126 assists and 87 steals.

For comparison, here are Skylar's numbers for the same season: .500/.355/.786 plus 3.3 boards, 222 assists, and 102 steals. Sky had a lot more assists, but a lot fewer rebounds. She was a consensus All-American.

Yeah, Tiff laid an egg today - going 0 for 9 and 1 point in 26 minutes.

Yea...everyone's entitled to a bad game here and there. I'm sure she will bounce back. Just not a good game today.

Thanks for making this thread and jynxing the Dream today

How superstitious can one sound. Are they always perfect? Will they always be?

Are not all entitled to a bad game here and there?

Relax. The dream will bounce back.

I vividly remember South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley telling an ESPN sideline reporter at half time of the UConn game last year (down by 10 at the half) that the game like the season is a marathon, not a sprint. And that her team would bounce back, and that they had a run or two left in them. Hayes will be fine over the course of the remainder of the season. We're only 8 games into the 34 game season. Still a long way to go.

Tiff had a rough day today. She was shooting above her head at 68% or so. Now, she's at a more sustainable level. She'll be better next game, for sure.

BTW, Jewell Loyd shot 0-8 today. It was contagious!
