Three Teams Are Undefeated (Updated)

Cal's next 3 games are ASU, Oregon State and Oregon. We'll see in the next week if Cal is for real.
I don't think any of the PAC12 teams will go undefeated in conference play. Cal will probably be either a 2 or 3 seed in the NCAA tournament.

PAC 12 Teams like to say they are overlooked due to East Coast Bias. I'm sure there is some truth, but IMO its because so many of the PAC12 schools won't travel east during their OOC Schedule to play good East Coast teams. Stanford and UCLA travel the most and are willing to schedule Home/Away games.

Lets see if UCLA/USC will schedule a Home/Away Series with UConn for KLS's home town game in her Senior year. Betting UCLA might be willing. KLS is from Huntington Beach which is close to Los Angeles.

Down 14 at the half, UTAH is lost and is no longer undefeated(in about an hour)
It has been found, somewhere between Nevada and Colorado

Sadly, plenty of east coast teams aren't traveling anywhere to play good teams from anywhere. No one played anything resembling UConn's schedule. And scheduling UConn isn't a credit to anyone, since it is a win / win situation in spite of losing. It is scheduling other top and decent teams that is a credit, and few do it.

PAC12 teams not only don't travel east all that much, but play a lot of teams from western conferences that folks don't see playing "known" east coast teams all that much. So they are underexposed, although I question that it is really that big of an issue.

I don't think USC would duck a big game, HC is still Cynthia Cooper-Dyke. Never thought she scheduled from fear, just schedules like everyone else.

Well, a lot of eastern teams are also not traveling out west to play games - it always takes two to create a home and home. Stanford has fairly consistently kept an east coast/mid west/southern swing that includes two decent teams and at the same time is hosting two decent teams on west coast trips. UCLA is doing the same. ASU had an interesting slate, Washington State and Oregon as well. The others not so much. Having 4 east/west games each year is probably as good as you are likely to get for Pac12 teams. The added travel for students is pretty tough and most teams tend to more regionally oriented schedules so why shouldn't they.

W Virginia lost K St. Down to 4.
  • UConn
  • Miss St
  • Cal
  • VaTech

4 Winless still: Coppin St, Alcorn St, Sam Houston St, Chicago St

Cal loses at Arizona State in double OT. It was a very hard-fought, but not too pretty, game. Kristine Anigwe, playing in her hometown, sat much of the first half with foul trouble, and ASU did a good job denying her touches in the second half. She came alive in the first OT, but in the second OT she missed 4 consecutive free throws — perhaps a victim of the Curtain of Distraction? (See attached screen shot.)

That leaves UConn, Miss St, and Va Tech as the only unbeatens.

Just three unbeaten teams now:
  • UConn
  • Miss St.
  • VaTech
In six weeks or so, this record will take on even more importance as teams play (or campaign) for tourney seedings.

Baylor and Northern Iowa would disagree
Outside of UConn (loss) and Tenn (win), Baylor has not played away from Waco. KState, outside of UConn(loss) at home, has played 3 games away; Baylor (loss), Northern Iowa (loss). and Omaha(?) (win) . See a pattern?
Winning at home means you are good. Winning on the road means you are great. Baylor is very good, maybe great, maybe special. Let's see how they do on the road in conference.

That is another thing that sticks out in OOC records - there are a lot of teams that never want to leave home, which means they will never schedule a decent team because it would require them to travel during the OOC for the return game. I know some of that is budgetary but come on, man! You telling me Alabama cannot find just a little bit of money for their women's team to leave the state more than once during the OOC? (record of 12-2, 0-2 on the road with the second road game at SC in their conference opener.)

Baylor's wins over Kent State, DePaul, and Ohio State were on a neutral court. Kansas State has neutral-court wins over NC State, LSU, and UTEP.

If we go undefeated this season, imagine the freshman class next season trying to help carry on the streak. That would be insane. Undefeated next season? Then the season after? And after?!

That would be a 200 game winning streak.

are you suggesting UConn will be undefeated for the next 4 seasons? that would put them at about 205-0

you're sounding very TonyC'ish

I am not saying they will. They have to make it healthy through this season first. But if they can remain healthy enough after that, certainly is possible.

Is Saniya going to have the best college record of all time? I believe she has played in only one loss so far in her college career (Stanford 2014). If the team loses to South Carolina and doesn't win the NCAA tournament (assuming all AAC games are won), then she finishes with just 3 losses which sounds like she would have the best record of anyone to ever play at UConn.

Could happen---at this point to the 205 number---it's a coin flip. Win/lose.

She will have to share that with the Law!

Thanks for the correction, but the main point remains. Baylor must show it can win consistently on another teams home court to get the praise it deserves. I think they will, but they have yet to do so.

The fact that just two Div. I teams other than U.Conn were able to go undefeated after just 13 games this season speaks volumes about the enormity of the streak!

The streak that matters is championships. 2017 Class are going to have the luxury of not really being depended on to win games or have a ton of pressure to be great right from the start. There are so many starters returning and Stevens will be eligible. 2017 Class is going to be like 2015 Class(KLS,Collier). They will be spot players that can be brought along and then they can be ready to take a bigger role in 2018 as Sophs. The class will have it's own internal battle with 2 wings and 2 guard in the same class to see who gets time and gains Geno's trust first.
