Thoughts on SC vs UCLA?

There have been a few tiny openings where it looked like South Carolina might be able to narrow the gap, but they just can't make any shots, and then UCLA gets going again.

I have to admit I had this game completely wrong. I thought SC would have a quickness advantage. They didn’t, or it didn’t matter. I wasn’t surprised they beat UConn. But I am surprised they are getting so decisively outplayed today.

I think it’s both. Abnormal offensive nights by the SEC schools but probably closer to an elite defensive team where most would’ve said great or very good

As a S.C. fan, I can stomach this blowout much better than I could last year's at the hands of UConn. Hope we're back next year. It'd be fun to see my Wolverines against my Gamecocks in the championship game.

I think it has more to do with beating South Carolina at their own game. The 5 is our weakest position but we can still take advantage of our size against most opponents...not UCLA. We also need skill against a big like Betts and that weakness is getting exposed in this game.

Honestly I'm pretty even keel at his moment. I'm not sure why. I think I'm just proud of the UCLA seniors and all the Cori Close haters may shut up now. It sucks for Raven and our seniors but they've accomplished A LOT in their careers, so it's nothing to hang your head about. Not many senior classes can say they have played in 3 championship games.

Friday's game took too much of an emotional and physical toll.

Could UCLA's embarrassing loss to UConn in the semis last year have provided them with some motivation all season long? It can't just be about talent, there has to be some mental preparedness component to the difference from one year to another for the Bruins.

South Carolina is checked out, but UCLA is the team running up and down the court getting easy buckets. The lack of quickness/athletic ability narrative I was seeing has proven to be bupkis.

There are few, if any, coaches/programs I’d rather lose a national championship to. The Close skeptics will have to rest knowing she’s won a national title.

For this one, I am picking UCLA based on intangibles. Their class has many seniors who are in a now or never situation. Perhaps it is good for the game to have the winner be a team that has not won this century.

Maybe SCar will make me go 0 for 3?

The score was 44-39 after 3 quarters. You think the game was decided then by the foul differential?

Tell me again what the foul differential was for the third quarter?
You don't think that influenced what the score would have been?

I checked the final score, and smiled. Then I checked the box score for the number of fouls called on each team and grinned. Turns out SC isn't quite as good in an evenly called game. ☺️

What a whooping.

I was worried about UCLA's size.

Just a non-competitive game by SCar.

The feeling after beating UConn was a lot like beating LSU again in the SECCG. And just got whipped after both.

Hate to miss these titles when you are so close but am just fine with UCLA breaking through. They clearly deserved it.

Glad too for Close to get her title and have folks off her back. Good coach.
