Thoughts on SC vs UCLA?

I'm rooting for UCLA because South Carolina already has three titles, all recent, and UConn is starting to take a back seat to them. UCLA is just getting started, so not as much of a threat.
Threat to what?

Did Betts get hit in the throat? Something happened. I missed it. So far the broadcast hasn't gone back to find out whatever it was.

Not sure, but it seems more like something is stuck in her throat based on the discussions with the trainer when they've panned the camera to her while on the bench.

Unless she was chewing gum, what could've been in her mouth to get stuck in her throat?

South Carolina got called for 6 first half fouls after only getting called for 8 all game in the final four. They are being called for excessive physicality this time. Has messed with their flow defensively

Offensively, they look shook. Betts has been baiting their bigs to take deep shots and SC is obliging. Even when Betts was off the floor, they missed shots they should make.

Have to assume they’ll pick it up in the second half but UCLA has to be feeling really good. Up double digits despite a few rough minutes at the end

South Carolina would be absolutely dead w/out Tessa Johnson. Only player doing anything for them.

Either UCLA has been extremely lucky these last 2 games, or they are playing some really good defense. Texas couldn't hit anything all game long and now South Carolina is having the same problem for a half.

And yet UCLA has been called for 1 more foul, despite South Carolina being obviously the more physically aggressive team. They haven't gotten away with everything, but they've still gotten away with a lot.

Threat to be seen as the preeminent program in women's college hoops. And longer-term, to start catching up to UConn's championship total over time.
Good grief! How is that a threat? UConn's legacy is already a matter of record.

Anybody who views South Carolina's exceptional performance over the past ten years as a "threat" is suffering from not insignificant insecurity. Sheeesh......

The two biggest differences in the game compared to UConn is UCLA's post play is significantly better then UConn's UCLA can get the ball into the low post and have a high probability they'll get points. With UConn a pass into the low post usually resulted in a turnover or no points. Also UCLA's low post player are able to get rebounds.

The other difference is So Carolina cannot double or triple team UCLA players as all are capable of scoring points. So Carolina knew shut down Sarah and Azzi and UConn wouldn't be able to get enough points to win the game. UCLA is spreading the ball around and their players for the most part are not getting caught in double teams.

IF UCLA win it will because of their Superior Post play.

Probably having a panic attack and/or anxiety, this has happened to her before, this was last year in the Sweet 16

She said in interview that the dry air in the arena makes her throat tighten up, seems to have it under control.

UCLA came out with high energy similar to TX game. SC was flat until 3 min left in the half.

Shooting: UCLA 43% v SC 26%.

I apologize. I'll root for South Carolina now. Your way is THE way and there is no other way.

I also encourage everyone else to police my thoughts and opinions to make sure I am shamed for using unacceptable reasoning. It really makes my day.

South Carolina picking up fouls in a hurry in Q3. They are in danger time right here.

I am so happy for UCLA to be up by a sizeable lead. That will be very difficult for the refs to screw with.
After a close halftime score in our game the refs made sure in the third quarter (6 vs 0 fouls) what the outcome would be.
(and the sports books made their money).
Did I actually say that?

Plus the fact that these refs are actually calling fouls. This is just irritating to see. We should have killed these guys. We just had a collective horrible offensive performance.

Damn. South Carolina is getting absolutely clobbered. Didn’t show up to play today. UCLA is out-hustling, out-toughing, and out-talenting them. That’s hard to do to SC

Not even midway through the third quarter and I’m pretty comfortable saying this one is over. Congrats to UCLA! First ever championship!

Refs calling holds on Betts underneath. UConn didn't have anyone like that as Williams is, uh, not Lauren Betts.

Still a lot of time left. Texas made a run late despite playing a horrible game overall. Not over yet.

The score was 44-39 after 3 quarters. You think the game was decided then by the foul differential?

How often does South Carolina's opponent have more O boards? Must be very infrequent. 14-9 UCLA so far.

Yeah, now refs swallowing the whistle. South Carolina comeback is about to start. Although they have to hit some shots for that to happen.

South Carolina had 4 fouls 3 minutes into the quarter. Took until 2:45 for UCLA to finally get in the bonus and get some FTs.

That was a sloppy and ugly game from both teams and Texas was able to make a late run. This one feels different. UCLA has been dominating and doesn’t seem to be slowing down today. South Carolina had their souls taken early. They’ve been looking lifeless

Hope I’m wrong for the sake of it becoming an interesting game, but this one is over

All SC has now, down 25, is to make this game as ugly as possible. Thats on Staley.

There have been a few tiny openings where it looked like South Carolina might be able to narrow the gap, but they just can't make any shots, and then UCLA gets going again.
