I was in Old Lyme this morning at the White Elephant sale at the First Congregational Church and found this Handbook of Chemistry & Physic book. It measures 8" x 5" x 3". It says it's from 1953-54, but the logo on the cover looks a lot like the logo from 1970-'81. The biggest difference is this one has a dog collar. Any thought on if this logo looks appropriate? Google doesn't show a logo prior to 1959, so I'm stumped. Grazi!

Isn't 1959 the year of the "derpy dog" also known as the "sad Husky" and occasionally referred to as the "constipated husky?"

Yup. And that's the first logo I see online. But I also see we adopted Jonathan the Husky as our mascot in 1934. Did we only have the live dog as a representation from '34 through '58?

That definitely looks like the 1970's logo with the addition of a collar added just below where the logo stopped. I'll bet there were some variations at the time and the 1970's logo had been around earlier, but they used a different logo for athletics. Eventually they cut the bottom of the 70's image off for athletics. Chemists & Physicists are precise and would only include the full detail. My guess!
