OT: This technology will be the end of us

For their next trick they will build the wall of the North to keep the blue eyed undead away...
Fricken Canadians and their 100+ scoring have always been a threat...

Seeing what can be accomplished, I wish scientists would redirect such efforts into curing cancer.

i've never understood why there hasn't been a Kennedy "let's go to the moon" kind of thing to cure cancer. Big Pharma conspiracies the only reason I can think of.

Or reviving ancient pathogens that humans have no immunity to.

This has already been figured out. It's merely overcoming ethics and morality before it gets released.

There’s more money in treating it than there is curing it…

I’m pretty down the middle but how I went from heathy as a horse for 40 plus years to multiple health problems in the last 5 years makes me question a whole lot of things.

I love this stuff. Yes let’s see Woolley Mammoths, sabertooth tigers , T Rex all of it. And while they are at it how about Babe Ruth, Lou Gherig and Josh Gibson?

I doubt they could hit modern pitching.

But... put together a band with Jimi, Janis, Keith, Jack Bruce, and John Lord and now we're talking.

Let's get the Shroud of Turin, scrape some DNA off of that and see if the dude walks on water.

I read something interesting over the weekend about how our use of technology may turn out differently than what was anticipated for three quarters of a century.

Since basically the early 1950's the belief was that technology would lead to humans doing less manual work/physical labor, allowing for us to place more time and focus on intellectual/thought fueled work. It appeared to be moving in this direction with advancements in robotics, a prime example being the use of robots in factories.

Currently however with the way younger people are utilizing AI, it appears that they are passing off a quite a bit of thought based work, which is the type of work it was believed we would hold on to.

I’d be onboard if scientists could develop a pathogen that selectively kills psychopaths and sociopaths.

.-.
Now make me a sabretooth tiger to ride to work
My almost one year old cats can provide the DNA. Black cats with really long canines (evidently it is most common in black cats).

I'm not real worried about the Direwolf DNA being added to the Grey Wolf DNA. Our eastern Coyotes are already part wolf and vastly bigger than western Coyotes. There's already no real predators for Grey Wolves in North America.

Now if they really start trying to make a T-Rex or something, that would concern me.

Are you insinuating a “Planet of the Apes” type takeover by Direwolves?

No, then I'd say I was worried. Let's see those cute pups grow up then we will have a sense of how much Direwolf is in those wolves.

BS - I swear I heard a Dire Wolf at a Grateful Dead concert in 1972
Robert Hunter was a visionary. While he didn't quite live long enough to see it, he knew that one day we would need to beg these creatures to "please don't murder" us.

They are wolves and will likely be socialized with other wolves, so I suspect they will -- somehow -- be quite a bit like wolves.

I'm talking size. Direwolves were larger. I'm not sure it really matters unless they try to take on this guy. Wolves are apex predators as it is.

One would hope they are not planning to "reintroduce" a long extinct species into the wild. Of course, one would hope that scientists would not have needed to watch Jurassic Park to understand even creating these lab-created Frankensteins was a foolish idea.
