NCAA/Bubble Teams under .500 vs. RPI Top 100

Texas Tech: 8-10
Baylor: 9-10
Colorado: 9-10
St. Joe's: 5-6
Notre Dame: 7-10
Cincy: 7-8
VCU: 6-7
San Diego State: 4-7
Butler: 6-8
Wichita State: 4-7
Vandy: 7-10
Florida: 7-12
UConn: 6-10
Temple: 7-8
Syracuse: 8-9
George Washington: 4-6
Gonzaga: 3-7
Michigan: 3-11

And that's probably the bubble. Michigan, Ohio State, and Georgetown us. Also, Tulsa is sitting at 51, so they can jump back in and make us 7-11.

Those are all pretty horrific.

And you're right about our OOC opponents. It seems like more often than not, our big-name OOC opponents underperform their historical record. That's the risk of scheduling these 2nd- and 3rd-tier opponents. Sometimes they're Top 25, but sometimes they're awful. Maryland and Texas were as expected, but OSU and Georgetown I think we expected to be Top 50, while neither have gotten there and Georgetown especially is an embarrassment. Even our Atlantis opponents, who all looked like Top 50 locks, have been mediocre with RPI's in the 60's.

Getting Arizona on the schedule in the next few years will help -- they're almost always Top 25.

I really credit those who go deep into the numbers to back their arguments but there is always the eyeball test, and after the first 10 minutes of the game Sunday my eyeballs were bleeding. Now we are almost I hope incapable of shooting as poorly against Cincy as we have been lately- I hope.

I would say only one school in the country has actually "failed every test thrown at it." That school isn't UConn, but it is in our general vicinity

Wichita State was 3-4 without Van Fleet. That helps them, but most of those games were their only top opponents.

They're a difficult team to evaluate.

We lost a couple games without Brimah. He's not Van Vleet but he's an important part of our team.

I get that completely. I admittedly am a little loose with the language on occasion. But it seems like every time we get ourselves in a position to prove we're tourney worthy, we give it back with a poor performance. Our nice wins like Texas or SMU or Ohio State happen when we are about to drop off the cliff. It like we can't stand the prosperity.

You're not wrong. We have spit the bit repeatedly this year.

I agree Pal had it right the first time. This team has us hoping we can squeak by a 1st round conference game when we really should be expecting a championship.
