Obviously they need to move forward and look to add 3-4 schools for FB. It's already clear that any new add would be reluctant to join while there is still a chance that existing BE schools may leave in the next few months or years. The solution: All BE schools agree to stay and increase the exit fee to $25m+. Make this new fee start after Jan 1, 2012. This gives any conference that wants to add a BE team added urgency to make their changes sooner rather than later. If January comes along and all the existing teams are still there than the new additions can safely sign on without a real fear of losing more conference teams. This is a win-win for all present and future BE teams.

seems reasonable enough. the biggest problem with getting everyone to agree to it, is that everyone seems to want to leave.

This is the biggest problem with everything. It's why there won't ever be stability in the BE again.

The problem is burning bridges. Air Force doesn't need the grief until things settle down.

By signing on teams could still leave but only before the new year. This just fast forwards the whole process (hopefully).

Like the January deadline, but instead of exit fees why not just agree to continue in the conference for a set period of time - like 4 years and in the 3rd year between June and August you can negotiate admission into another conference for the following year. If by September of the 3rd year you have not agreed to move to another conference, then the contract renews for a another 4 years. So basically there will be a window to leave every four years.
