You should be more concerned about Daniels who you have been touting as a stud and how he turns out.

Excuse me for defending Daniels while you shat on him under your alias MarkT.

You remind me of people who are ludicrous to think that the top college BB teams could compete in the NBA. You realize you are talking about a middling college PF vs. three NBA Starters and former college MONSTERS, right?

DeJuan blair was an absolute BEAST at PITT. Booker was a 18-10-3 guy at Clemson, and Shelden Williams was a 16-11-3 guy at Duke for 4 years.

Calm down and take you blood pressure medicine i didnt say he would start guaranteed in the NBA, I said he could in the bottom teams of the NBA. I said he will make the NBA for sure and can be a career backup power forward in the NBA. The point of this thread was not for Oriakhi but the point why many people are not taking these losses lightly is because of the situation the NCAA has put us in for next year which is why we need to repeat as champs.

Oriakhi for sure will be gone whether we win the title or not.

I look forward to you eating crow sometime in April when we learn that you are sadly mistaken....

That's usually what people do when they post ridiculous things on message boards that end up being wrong, right?

Next year is going to suck...here is why
  1. we'll be ineligible for the postseason
  2. Drummond will leave. I know he said he is coming back, but with no postseason birth available and the fact that he'll be a top 3 pick why would you stay?
  3. Lamb will leave
  4. Shabazz will leave. Gottlieb said last night many scouts believe he'll be the first PG taken in the draft
  5. Boat will leave. Why stick around if you're constantly sitting out?
That leaves our lineup to be

Brendan Allen
Omar Calhoun
Niels Giffey
Tyler Olander
Alex Oriakhi

Sounds like a .500 team to me, and since we'll be ineligible for the postseason, its not like it matters.
All I wish to address is your point #1. We won't be ineligible. With Harrisson, UHart pres. in control of this committee, they'll decide to giverybody adequate advanced notice. Meaning that any tourney ban wouldn't start until each school has a 4 year notice. This means 2015 or 2016 this would begin. The committee should have it's findings known in Feb.
All the rest should take care of itself.

I guess I was the only poster opening this thread expecting that JC was going to announce his retirement after this season. I wasn't expecting the crystal ball to define the future in the manner that the OP presented.

Note to OP: there is no next season for anyone, The Mayan calender has declared this.

I will be the first to admit it if I am wrong and he doesnt get drafted.

.-.
Read Hegotgame's link and you will see nbadraft.net is the second best website/author in terms of guessing where players get drafted. The loser Chad Ford who I have heard some people on here mention as a reliable source is 8th in the rankings. That speaks for itself. The website was updated today for your insight and is updated usually twice a week.

I don't visit that site, thus not sure when updated.

Ehh all that shows is that the NBA draft is hard to predict and nbadraft.net was better than others 12 hours before the draft, not 6 months before.

The "2nd best" in that system got 7 draft picks off by more than 5 spots. That's almost a quarter of the draft and who knows how off they were by for those 7. Secondly, they got 7 spot on which is good but not great. At least 2 picks last year were gimme's or should have been in Irving and Williams. So aside from that they got 5 out of 28 correct. The grading system would be more impressive if they did a few things:
  • Gave negative points for being off by more than 5 spots.
  • Grade the second round mock as well
  • Weight it based on if it's a lottery pick or not or top ten, etc. I think being more accurate as the draft goes on would be a huge advantage. (You could do something like use a +10 for being perfect and -10 for being off by 20+ spots then use a multiplier where every pick is worth it's position).
This way if you got Irving correct you get 10 points but if you got Jimmy Butler correct you got 300 points and if you got Majok correct, 580 points. If you had Irving second you get 9 points. If you had Jimmy Butler as 38, you get 16 points. You have Majok not drafted, minus 580 points. Sure a lot of the experts would be in the negatives, but that would probably be more accurate. Reason being is that the front of the draft should be much easier to get correct while the back end is more of a crapshoot. Let's see how well these draft "experts" do then.

This may not be perfect either but I was just spitballing.

Edit: I might consider not counting the picks 51-60 if they are wrong and give "experts" the benefit of only getting a zero for them if the "expert" didn't have them drafted. I would have to give this more than 10 minutes worth of thought.

I will be the first to admit it if I am wrong and he doesnt get drafted.

It will literally be impossible for him to get drafted because he will be playing for the Connecticut Huskies next year.

The best NBA draft sites are the ones which provide the best analysis of prospects strengths and weaknesses because predicting the draft a week out is tough. 6 months out is impossible and totally meaningless.

Yea it is and its usually spot on most of the draft picks. I never said Oriakhi is a guaranteed first round pick but he will certainly get drafted either late first round or early to middle second round of this year's draft. There would be no reason for Oriakhi to stay next year as he is good enough to be at least a backup power forward in the NBA if not a starter on some teams.
how can you say this? he's barely a starter for UConn..

Oriakhi has the size and strength needed to play the 4 spot in the NBA. He has a nice little jumper, and has some decent post moves. He also has pretty good athleticism. Obviously he's not a great prospect but he is a decent big whose game will translate well to the NBA with what he can do. Look around the league and there is a bunch of players on NBA teams rosters who are brutal I mean Adam Morrison, Dj Mbenga, Shelden Williams, Renaldo Balkman, stephen graham( the Nets roster is full of jokes). Your saying Oriakhi can't play ahead of these guys?

i love the boneyard, but some of these posts lately make me want to pull a babysheep and take a break.

can we set up some sort of relegation system, ala the premier league, where we can demote certain posters to a minor league board (the cesspool?) if their performance has been poor. that way they can hone their posting skills and get called back up when they've cleaned up their acts.

That is an awesome idea. Screw freedom of speech, we need a mod with an iron fist and no conscience.

.-.
damn, and all this time I was thinking we could make another run at the FF next year

bummer

This is just an absurd thread. AO wouldn't even get drafted in the 2nd round if the draft was held now. I really like AO, but he has a lot of work to do before he is NBA ready.

AO is a Junior..... he is running out of time... Let's be honest here.... aside from a few games last year and the stretch run he has done next to nothing in his career. A Jeff Adrien he is not.

OP actually has received two Likes. Not for this post, but still . . .

Then again, best laughs of the day going through this thread.

Alex has good size and athleticism, but has NO FRIGGIN HANDS. Balls get passed in to him and he routinely loses them. It's been an issue for him for now the third straight season. He said he looked at the NBA last offseason, but if Jeff Adrien has had such a hard time sticking in the league, Alex has no shot.

That being said I hope he improves as it would be great to have him play consistently every game.

Are people forgetting that before the season there was discussion from this board and even analysts that he could, and should, be averaging double doubles? We are lucky if he puts up an 8 and 8 game now.
Can't wait to see Alex in a UConn jersey again next season.

.-.
I think Alex will be back next year and we will all be very pleased with his performance at his true position, Center, after working hard in the off season on balancing drills an d hand strengthening exercises (grasping exercises in a bucket of sand etc). He will rarely turn the ball over and will average 11 ppg and 9 rbg and 2.5 blocks and he will lead the team to a top 4 finish in the Big
East, regardless of what other exculpatory punishments the NCAA throws our way!

Then Jeff Adrien and Hilton will help him get hooked up with a sweet $750k per year gig in France or Spain...we should all best fortunate!

Neither Drummond nor Lamb is ready to move on. Andre, for all his raw skills, really doesn't understand the basic fundamentals of the game. He hasn't learned how to post up, his screens are soft and released to early, and he stands around lost far too often. One more year will see a huge improvement, especially if he attends a Big Man Camp this summer.

As for Lamb, I'm concerned that he's believeing too much of the hype. He's simply not physical enough, can't takeover a game the way a top draft pick should be able to do, or even take on a defender. Also, his shooting has been inconsistent. However, he's got freakish gifts that few have, including terrificly long and quick arms. He's developing, but I think it would be a mistake for him to leave after this year.
If a guy like Ray Allen can stay 3 years why not them?

Nice little jumper? What are you smoking? I guarantee you that Oriakhi is not shooting more than 30% on jump shots. Jeff Adrien had a nice little jumper. Alex Oriakhi does not. All those guys you list on the nets (with the exception of Mbenga had nice little college careers. Oriakhi has played maybe 10 good games in a Uconn uniform.
