So I am looking at the pool of potential players and there are a lot of injury factors to consider - Swin and Ashja are not on the roster, Sloot is down with ligament problems, EDD has a recurrence of Lyme disease and Catch has a bad back.

There are still many people ready and raring to go - DT, Sue Bird, Maya among them. Who do you think will make the final 12?

(The closer the World games are, the closer the season is, and this off season is going to be a looong one...)

Have at it, folks!

Chicago, This thread was started two weeks ago so this would be a retread. And as far as being a long off season, it's already been a great one with good news, USA U17 games with future UConn Huskies in the mix, announcements concerning USA basketball in Bridgeport, the most entertaining WNBA season ever, the Basketball Champions Center opening this month, etc. As far as the National team is concerned I will list the Locks followed by the most likely.
Locks
Diana Taurasi, Maya Moore, Tamika Catchings, Candace Parker, Britney Grinner, Lyndsey Whalen, Angel Macathry, Tina Charles
Most Likely
Stewie, Sue Bird, Skylar Diggins, Big Syl, Nika Ob, D Robinson.Elena Della Done

I feel it's very important for D-Rob to get some top-level international experience. Sue and Whalen are both essentially of the same generation and not getting any younger. I see Robinson as Team USA's PG for much of the next decade, with Sloot and hopefully eventually MoJett battling it out for the backup position.

Looking forward to seeing the DT and Griner show on the world stage.

Ogwumike sisters face a puzzle. Do they battle it out for slots/minutes for USA, or do they walk into full time roles and instantaneously transform Nigeria into a medal contender?

I'm hoping the Ogwumike sisters will choose to play for Nigeria. That country needs female role models in light of what is going on there regarding women's rights, education, discrimination. This is a more important issue than making the USA basketball team stronger.

Much of the discussion was under the "If you had to choose now" thread.

Yes, injuries and illness will affect the team. All of the following have some health issue: Catch, Syl, Elena, Sloot, Seimone.

I think Tina has underperformed for a while. Though Sue's numbers are down, she's playing well and misses LJ.

For 2014, I think Diana, Maya, Lindsay, and Candace are the easy picks. There is at least a minor question about everyone else. I think Elena, Catch, and Syl are out for medical reasons. At best, they are rusty. If Angel's head is in the right place, she's on the team. With Syl out, Griner is an easy choice. I'm not sure where the O sisters stand. With Elena out, KML has a chance. I think Stewie makes it, partly due to injuries. Seimone should be ok by then. I don't think that DRob or Skylar is proven yet.

Yes it was, so why rehash? Why don't we discuss a fresh new topic, something titillating, something interesting and not discussed before, something...something

Like, I don't know...like...like...liiiiiike.... what constitutes a jump shot ......perhaps?

.-.
IMHO Odyssey or Skylar or possibly both will make the team. Team USA has to prepare for the next wave of guards that will lead the team.

Nigeria will not be participating in the FIBA world championship in Turkey- Angola and Mozambique will represent Africa. So the Ogwumike sisters will have to be on the US team or nothing.

Is Syl out again?

Is Syl out again?
No, but she had 4 points and 2 boards last night. She's played part of 2 or 3 games. Even though it may not seem fair, I don't think anyone--even Maya and Diana--should be on the team if they are still coming back from injury and very rusty. If Syl is 100% (or 90%) and plays like she did for years, then great. But if her performance is subpar, someone who is able to perform better should make the team. I had BG at 50-50 in terms of making the team, but Syl's health increases her chances in my view.

I would love to see BG and Syl on the court together. Imagine the opponent trying to get a shot off in the paint.

thats why it was rehashed... horrible title about the subject. The title should say "if you had to choose for the "Olympic Team" now".

Im sure I didnt read the "if you had to choose now" thread... cause I may have thought it was more about "who starts", "which recruit" "best UConn team/player ever"

titles mean everything imo

and UConn has won 9 going on 10 titles...

that's UConn

Well, sorry that I asked for a (unbeknownst to me) "rehash"...it's my very busy season at work and I missed the thread called "if you had to choose now". But I appreciate those that did respond to my question. And I am glad to have seen the Young Frankenstein clips!

Shame on you for not seeing a thread from two weeks ago. You should always sort through all threads to see if something has possibly been discussed in the past.

Some regulars forget that not everyone reads the board daily, thus not knowing what has previously been discussed.

There are people who don't read the board daily? :)

And some other posters who post fairly regularly ought to check their data before they go rolling their eyes and chastising regular posters. that a thread they said was started 2 weeks ago was active up through June 30th, a mere two days before this one was started...

Does it really matter that someone started a new thread about the same topic? I don't understand that "we've already discussed that" attitude. If you don't want to discuss it again, then don't. But don't be snarky to a poster who rarely starts threads.

Just my opinion.

Plus, this is an active board. That thread is already near the bottom of page 2. What is the research expectation before starting a new thread?

Happy to take this offline as usual ett
- however I was not the first person to mention that this was a rehash topic.
- I made light of it
- And as to the Snark factor, well I'm happy to address that offline as well, although a quick review of previous posts ought to give you some idea of where I stand on this issue.

I await your private message.

Oh honey, I have nothing to say to you. Time to move on to something "fresh."

(forgive me please if this has been posted somewhere ....but)

I am going to Turkey, and wondering..... when does the final roster get announced? Anyone know? Thanks

Parker is REALLY good with her left hand now and has so much more range on her shot.

More travelers to Turkey--great!!

I don't know the exact date, but I think the full team is named about the end of August, possibly in multiple stages. Keep in mind that injuries and illness could be factors.
