Think this will help recruiting?

This kind of run made Duke, Duke. Hurley should get anyone he wants.
One would hope, but recruiting didn't get a bump after Coach's 2nd title. I also believe he said being so involved in prep kept him from spending time on recruiting/portal. Hope Moore's new position helps with that.

I really like furphy as a system fit player on offense but they really need more athleticism and physicality. The game is becoming more size and physicality dominated they need to beef up and get athletes.

I think UConn owns the transfer portal now. Karaban’s maturity in passing to Mullins was stellar. His relationship with Hurley, unselfishness and cohesiveness.
Karaban and Reed are the heart and soul of this years team. Players will line up to be next in line.

As far as the portal goes I have to imagine that players have to take notice of how well transfers have done at UConn and how key they have been to UConn's success.

every situation is different. flagg and boozers were always going to duke . some kids are all about $ and shots likedybanza ( sic) even if they are quality kids . cam spencer had a bigger offer from miami but chose uconn and that worked out well for both parties . the castle family had a preexisting relationship with kamani . getting a kid like smith willing to be a backup and staying ready then delivering is almost as important as the 5 star or high profile transfer . seeing that donovan and steph tracking towards max extensions has to help. it seems the kid from west haven going to arkansas was not a high priority… uconn seems to do a good job with fit and development

As long as you have the money to subscribe to a half a dozen different streaming services and channels and whatever.

That's not the point - the point is that no kid is going to not come here if the $ is right because of what network we are on.

Also - with recent recruits doing so well in the NBA - that matters also. And what Castle/Clingan have to say about Hurley/UCONN is a factor.

Here’s a possibly wild take, Would we want to beat them often? I can see on 1-2 targeted recruits a year. But the Calipari/Scheyer model doesn’t win titles with mainly high school players and many one and done players. Hurley’s formula of 2-3 high school recruits per year coupled with portal activity seems to be most conducive to winning.
I'm strictly talking about the biggest fish. Our model is perfect. One or two 5* studs with vets. But last year, imagine if we had Flagg man. We'd be 3 for 3 and going for 4 for 4 right now.

If we landed Flagg I'm not sure Alex sticks around. Might have just declared.

I think Danny will get some one and dones going head to head with Duke now. He seems to want to take one of them most years. I can see a few coming here over Duke.

We’ve had huge success over the past 3 decades. This despite the fact that the burger boy schools have the lions share of top high school talent every year. Somehow that moment yesterday may change recruits and transfers opinions on making UConn their destination stop.

We are all aware of our successes but after yesterday, the world is aware. Two other observations: it’s a better use of our money to pay a top notch coach like Danny than spend it on players who can’t guarantee any Nattys.

If this performance against Duke doesn’t compel any Power 4 conference to extend us an invite, I don’t know what to say. The “we don’t have competitive football” is a bs reason for excluding us. If that’s the collective consensus of the Power 4, then please explain schools like Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina and many other sub-par football programs in their respective conferences.
I said it on another post and I'll say it again. We belong in the Big 10! Can't change my mind.

I can’t see us playing more than one freshman major minutes. It seems like Hurley’s system largely requires two years to unleash potential. We see major improvements in the second year with guys like Newton, Reed, DC,, etc.

Guys who just come here ready are already special. See Castle and Cam. (I’d also argue Silas).

In terms of competing with Duke for recruits - why? When did they last win, 2015? Around here, we call that a drought.

meleek played pretty well this year, it's just that acuff took all the spotlight. it was probably just money related.
Meleek had a great year and from all accounts wasn't trouble.....he would have been a great get for us, way above average scorer

Anyone who criticizes our Football program as s reason to keep us out of a conference, I give you BC and Rutgers, and honorable mention to Syracuse. We can be at least at their level in football, and probably a bit better.

If you are a recruit, how do you turn down Hurley now? 3 Final Fours in 4 years. Potentially 3 rings. We will be able to get ANYONE we want.
The only thing I can think of is joining the team that ends up toppling UConn, possibly St. John's. I think that's been the argument with dynasty-type teams. Be part of them, or be the one to take them down. The second can appeal to some.

Plus, maybe all that media hype about how "awful" Hurley is might get under some players' skins.

Full disclosure, I am not saying I agree with either one, especially point 2, but it's a crazy world.

Scheyer is an interesting case to me. Seems like a great coach for how new he is, but something tells me he might be as good as the current recruiting cycle seeing as how he’s had two generational freshmen who were NPOTY-caliber, and a multitude of 5 stars on the bench. Might be more than a coincidence that Duke has peaked in these past 2 years compared to the ones before.

I think next year will tell a lot about how he can hold up given that class won’t be nearly as loaded.
I have a difficult time viewing Scheyer as great at this point in his career as basically he was placed on third base and praising him for what he's accomplished is saying "look, he's only 90 feet away from home plate".

This win of course will help us with recruits, but this win I think helped us on a much larger scale. The shot crossed over into the mainstream. People who don't even know we won 2 of the last 3 know all about this shot. EVERYONE was talking about it today. UConn is part of pop culture with this moment!

Do we even go after many of the same recruits? I recall Lewis had Duke & Uconn listed, and then he ended up at UK to Nova.

The type of attention a shot like that gets is free marketing/branding for the program - of course it helps. Kids want to be part of that kind of stuff.

I do think if Hurley is going to look for an instant freshmen starter/contributor that is considered OAD, he should go after top stock and pay up if he has to. There is no point in going after kids that are high potential long term that are just ok. You want iron clad difference makers.
I'm looking for the right words here that aren't overly harsh. Let me try these -- you should shut up.

We're winning more championships our way than Duke's way. We've beaten Duke head to head in the tournament three straight times. If you have half a brain, or didn't waste your small amount of brain function wondering why UConn isn't better, maybe you should ask yourself why Duke, who can recruit most everyone they want, isn't emulating what Hurley and UConn are doing.

We will be in a battle with Pitino for the best talent, they have Repole with unlimited money.
We have championships. If I’m a top transfer I would be thinking “ do I want to play a nonstop press for 40 minutes every game?” Both coaches will work you to the bone but Hurley should get the nod.

Talk about easily triggered. Have a nice afternoon.

Completely agree with this take. He is a great recruiter or so it seems. He may be living off the reputation of the school built by others. As far as his ability to build a program and win games, that remains to be seen. If he can't win big games with the talent on his bench, how long before that talent begins to diminish?

Rhetorical or not, I think this win helped a lot. A poor showing this tournament coupled w Luke leaving could have weakened the narrative a bit. This solidifies continued positive momentum moving forward, both internally and externally.

I’ll give him credit since Pope should have that same excuse but is both a much worse recruiter and coach.

I also have doubts on him being “great”, it was out of respect for him having 2 1 seeds and a Final 4 appearance. But I think he might be riding out the talent more than elevating it further.

Flagg played the 3. Might not have gotten Liam in the spring though. Butttt they were best friends at Montverde so who knows. Flagg could have played the 2 in our system tbh he was an absolute freak. Stick that dude anywhere and it would have worked haha

We're landing solid top 15-50 recruits.

Last 2 years.

2025:

#12 Mullins
#36 Riebe
#100 Furphy
#203 Ross

Portal:

Smith
Demary

2026: (So far)

#22 Landrew
#36 JC

As of now we will lose. (Pending any potential extra years, transfers, early draft)

1. Karaban: 13.2 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 2.3 APG
2. Koroma: 1.4 PPG, 0.9 RPG, 0.2 APG
3. Millender: 0.6 PPG, 0.3 RPG, 0.4 APG.
4. Reed: 14.7 PPG, 8.8 RPG, 2.4 APG.
5. Smith: 3.6 PPG, 1.5 RPG, 3.0 APG

I think 1-2 top 10ish types are fine at most to "add to". I think my biggest concern is recruiting over long term potential. We get a freshman that doesn't pan out, or gives us a decent/good season before leaving but lose a guy who would have given us 2-3 years of good production and depth. We've been to 3/4 final fours in this system Hurley is running with 2 titles. We have a chance at 3 titles in 4 years. I don't think we have a major issue. If it becomes one I believe this staff will address it.
