guys, for the 1,000,000th time, a serious football program does not wait six weeks after the season to fire a coach who obviously should be fired. Just because Herbst/Benedict/Warde got sucked in by a stupid agent's sales job doesn't mean you double down on the mistake by waiting six precious recruiting weeks to save $1.6 million, which, while not insignificant, is small compared to the millions at stake in conference realignment, etc. Plus you unnecessarily leave someone twisting in the wind and as bad as Diaco has coached this year, he doesn't deserve that. Yes, it sucks, and someone needs to hold Herbst and Benedict accountable for entering into a stupid deal, but wait six weeks? Talk about penny-wise and pound foolish.

Not that many serious football programs that are NOT in a P5 that are state universities whose state face a huge budget deficit orchestrated by the another high paid state employee that should be fired. Sorry politics but this situation is not that easy

And if he stays, you can write off about 2000-3000 more season tickets. So you might be "spending" $1.6 million, but you'll be saving what's left of the season ticket base and interest in the program.

What? Chris Ash was hired on Dec. 10. Buyout wasn't nailed down until March. Never heard Diaco's name linked to that job until now.

We need a coach that will recruit players with a little fire in their bellies. There doesn't seem to be one player other than Noel Thomas that shows any intensity. You can go back to the end of the Navy game when the clock was running down. I know it was a stupid coaching decision but there was no urgency by the players either to even try to get a play off. Coaching or not, you think someone would at least get pissed about getting embarrassed and show a little fire. Do these players smoke weed before the game? Calhoun would have had a coronary if he was coaching this group of players.

There were multiple "reports" pointing at Diaco as a possible Rutgers option @ end of November/early December 2015. Accuracy and who placed the reports/leaks are always up for debate but they occurred.

No doubt but that doesn't mean that Hobbs didn't reach out to gauge interest. Diaco shares the same agent w/ Bill Belichick, the Stoops brothers, Kirk Ferenetz, Bo Pelini, Pat Narduzzi, and Brett Belima among others - one of the best in the business. If Diaco wanted out after 2 years at the money he was making we should have shown him the door. Zero winning seasons and one of the worst offenses in CFB. He had proven very little to be shopping for a better deal. Ward got schnookered.

Not disputing that. But that doesn't absolve Benedict. He was hired for P5 expertise, right? Would have been nice if he had asked around to see if that buyout number was within the market. Having done zero research on this my gut says it will be on the high end. . . .as far as Rutgers dont think Diaco was ever seriously considered. Again, I'll chalk up whatever 'reports' came out to agent hype

Beyond the buyout, it would be harmful to Diaco to wait until January. By then all of the best DC jobs will have been filled. If he doesn't want to waste a year in the prime of his career (or find himself as the DB coach somewhere) it would be to his benefit to get this addressed sooner rather than later. I'd call his agent and tell him the search is on. If he wants to keep his guy off the market until January 2 OK, but, if not, let's talk about that buyout provision.
