Sen. Richard Blumenthal wrote a letter to WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert on Monday, saying that interference by the WNBA into the tribe’s efforts to sell to a local buyer could violate federal antitrust laws.

“Any further attempts by the WNBA to use its considerable governance and market power over the Connecticut Sun to limit or dictate negotiations with the state of Connecticut could be a unreasonable restraint of trade and interference with the market that would violate federal antitrust laws,” Blumenthal wrote. “As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which has jurisdiction over antitrust matters, I am closely monitoring the WNBA’s actions and will demand investigations and enforcement actions from the appropriate federal authorities if it takes any step to hinder or constrain Connecticut’s negotiations.”

“I strongly urge the WNBA to refrain from any further actions that would interfere with the state of Connecticut’s efforts to keep the Sun where it belongs, in Connecticut,” Blumenthal wrote.

WNBA is a clownshow
imho, it started with that ridiculous striped basketball ... reminds me of the Globetrotters clown show, and one of the main reasons why I don't watch a minute of wnba, lol

somewhere in a brand strategy meeting, someone likely suggested "If we get them to watch the striped beach ball, they will be mesmerized like children, and they won't notice anything else ... ..."

(awaits rebutles about overseas balls and/or pics of Dr J)

I hope this ends the argument over this, net cost:

“The Huskies in men’s basketball net $600,000-plus for a sellout in Storrs, $1 million-plus with a sellout in Hartford.”

CT Post
This was always the case, but brainwashed Gampel deniers pushed the other motive. Seats sell, and having 5k more is major cash flow.

Hoping this is a great step, for all things discussed in this thread

Could Hartford become a vibrant college town? The city’s mayor believes so
DR, between the Main and Pratt (2026) locations for resident housing, I guess the Uconn Hartford plan is moving right next to buildings we both did business in. Funny thing is, I was walking over past the 515 Main St. property yesterday, just as the news crews where gathering for the ribbon cutting.

I guess the Hartford campus continues to grow... "with nearly 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students at UConn Hartford " They've also picked up property on Main St. south of the resident space too. ( UConn Health’s Health Disparities Institute at 241 Main St. )

I've been meaning to ask you, are you making it up for the Duke game?
I'm a definite-maybe for that game ... went last year to Durham, but every week this November is stacked! .... definite for 11/15 Boston and 11/22 in Boca Raton (South Florida Alumini Network & Fans Stand Up!) ... and maybe 11/28 @ MSG, but doubtful given the start time

*edit/add - just recalled this DM from my dear leaders

Public pressure mounts behind efforts to keep Connecticut Sun as state reportedly submits new proposal

... notably the area around the western side of Constitution Plaza ...
anyone remember when A Taste of Hartford raged all sides of Constitution Plaza, for 3-4 days/nights straight?

I think the problem is less a sellout where 6000 more seats generate roughly $67 apiece, as the fact that what happens when they don't sell out at what point is the school operating at a loss by going to Hartford?

Also, I have to laugh at the Hartford crowd seems to love name-calling. I guess this prospect of an additional 30 minute drive make some people angry..

I keep hoping for more pictures. It's like the biggest secret in the state

Actually, I think they've done a pretty good job of promoting it and a pretty good job on the renovation. It's an old building and it's always going to have it's limitations, but the renovation seems well thought out and well executed.
