All fixable. The XL works fine considering there is no professional tenant.
 
Who cares? The Boston Garden was a dump too. It was awesome because the team that played in it won and the fans had a good time and got rowdy. There's literally no reason that the state should give $300 mil to that when seniors aren't even getting proper health coverage due to medicare cuts. Not to mention that literally all evidence suggests that publicly funded stadiums are not profitable for the people who fund them.
 
It just amazes me how every city in the country figures this out but Hartford can't. Forget good cities- SIOUX FALLS, ANCHORAGE, FORT WAYNE...somehow they all figured out how to build an arena but we've got Dannell (and I'm basically a socialist, mind you) saying it costs $1.5 billion to build an arena in Hartford, GT ENTIRE FOH

Hi there. I'm a millennial. I was in 227. I'd like:

1. All of the concession stands to be open.
2. All of the bathrooms to be open.
3. If those two demands aren't too overwhelming, maybe more than 4 inches between the seats so I don't elbow my girlfriend in the ribs every 5 minutes from clapping.

Do let me know if these demands are reasonable. I can be alerted via parcel post at the Avocado Toast Factory.

I am very definitely NOT a millennial, and I'll say that the place is a GD dump.
 
It's the worst arena I've ever been in except for possibly the Izod center in Jersey.

I don't particularly care, ultimately I'm there for the game, and while better amenities would be great, it would only slightly upgrade the experience for me. But to pretend its not a complete dump is silly

Per Andrew Zimbalist, Smith College economist. Now ask me what the bars and restaurants looked like when the Whale was here. The same people have tried plowing money into the Hartford schools with such success. Of course, bars and restaurants are not high paying, but my Dad lived in a one bedroom apartment in NYC during the depression. His father had come to the U.S. and worked menial jobs to put his son through college. Public funding sucks, but so does bribery of companies with tax breaks to move to your state or city. We can be proud of standing up to the big sports titans, just expect a dump of a city.

When there are 5-6k people there you don’t notice. When it’s full it’s stark just how impossibly bad it is.

It is Connecticut's fault, not Hartford's. The state is in a constant state of economic crisis. That has to be solved before they figured out how to pay for required improvements.

Even so, it still comes down to political will. Most of the state was against the ball park and that was a tremendous success.

Now this is a criticism I've had for decades, both of our arenas are at the bottom of the barrel for entertainment value.

I don't think the state will ever let UConn move all their games from Hartford, but they have to provide a better facility

FYI, the state of CT has control of a couple of those, and shock of all shocks, the third one has not impact on the first two in any way. Lots of states are ATTRACTING businesses, rather than driving them away. On the state level, you don't really have to "hope in vane". In theory, of course.

^ In a nutshell. At a midweek Hockey game v. Northeastern with 3500 in attendance it is roomy, no wait for beer. Filled arena? Nightmare. A..hole to bellybutton as they say.

.............and the reason it's Connecticut's fault lies with the Governor, Mayor, and liberal Legislators, who spend, spend, SPEND on all kinds of inane programs.

Hartford police are often quite terrible. Not all but enough. Theyre the guys that couldnt get jobs in other towns because theyre unqualified bullies.

And we wonder why police brutality (and complicit silence) is a problem

You are right. Generally they are really poor. I do have to say years ago I had a minor fender bender and the cop was really good, not authoritative and making everyone feel bad. I even called and spoke to his supervisor telling him he had a great ambassador

I've never had a problem with the XL Center. I arrive 30-45 minutes beforehand, use the bathrooms, head to the concessions and eat in my seat while I wait for the game to start. Not much else is required. The people who are constantly getting up every whistle are the worst.

I understand that for others the concessions can be a nightmare. My dad must have missed the first five minutes of the second half just getting a coffee. Fortunately we won't have these problems much longer because nobody is going to come to the games.

It’s not that bad. The phased upgrades they made to the facility look really nice. The concourses are small. Not much you can do about that without the full 250 million dollar upgrade. The people have spoken through their representatives and the major upgrade was not approved as part of the state budget. The XL Center will just need to make it work with the $$$ That we’re approved for accential upgrades. You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometime, you just might find, you get what you need.
