I think OJ qualifies. I met him when I was 12 years old. He was super nice and let us all know he was looking for white women. Less than two years later Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman were murdered.

A year before that I tried to meet Cornelius Bennett and Thurman Thomas at a Knicks game and they told me to "get lost kid."
Funny I saw Bruce Smith at an airport a few years back and tried to say hello and he was a bit of a jerk. Maybe that entire Bills team is sour. Bruce was still in amazing shape.

HS Buddy of mine shook OJs hand a couple days before the murders. He was working a summer job in a factory for Swiss Army, which his dad was a CFO for and OJ was on the board of. OJ was taking a tour of the factory. He did say OJs hand felt kind of arthritic, but he was a nice guy.

I know a former major league player who when I asked him about other players he would always say they were all great guys. I finally said come on there must be one guy who is a jerk. He immediately said Pat Burrell. I had read that he was a complete jerk and disliked by all the players .Guess it’s true.

If you’re bored, google stories about Pat the Bat. He’s a legendary jerk with bar scene and pickup stories galore.

They're all great to the people who love them, they probably smelled the stink of New Englanders from you all.

I used to have a younger lawyer at my firm who grew up in Brentwood with OJ's kids. She was in the dance recital with OJ's daughter the night of the murders and her family has home videos from that night where you can see OJ in the audience. Kind of creepy.

.-.
I mean I try to give him the benefit of the doubt as an adult but then at the end of the 30 for 30 he says to his kid “Did you ever see the video of my last second shot against UConn?” and I can’t stand him again.
Worked at Accenture with a ex-football player from Duke: Bobby Hurley absolutely the nicest guy he ever met; Laettner the absolute worst person he ever met.

Lenny Dykstra lost a defamation suit again Ron Darling, the judge said something along the lines of his reputation was already so tarnished before the suit that it couldn't possibly get any worse.
Lenny's brain is cooked. But he has almost all the best lines in "Once Upon A Time In Queens".

So…you’re saying he’s innocent and has an alibi? And your friend never disclosed this to the world?!?!

Lenny is an excellent show topic for Howard Stern but otherwise he’s useless as a human. He’s a total scumbag and loser.

.-.
Christian Laettner of course.

Yup

I think the fact that he was at the dance recital is common knowledge

Not in this world of making stupid and obvious jokes that I live in.

But I guess we live in different worlds.

John Rocker must be included here…but as a Braves fan I wish SOMEONE could close like he did for that 1 year.

Then he sucked like god intended.

Randy Edsall, won't reveal this persons name but I know someone who played for UConn and told me that Edsall was a real dick. If you win you can get away with being a jerk which he did for a bit.

We know the way he left for Maryland and Hathaway played a huge part in this. Edsall 2.0 was a complete disaster made Diaco look like Hurley. Benedict brings in Lashlee the offense actually looked decent and uptempo. Edsalls runs Lashlee out of town. He wanted complete control of the offense.

Had the mass exodus in the transfer portal before the portal became a thing and blamed the kids for quitting. Then 2020 happened and Edsall voluntarily cancelled the season, yes we know it was gonna be a lost season with scheduling anyways, then he takes the entire year off in Florida, literally stealing money from UConn while his kids are practicing, just unreal.

Just a hypocritical fraud, who blamed everything on everyone else. What's done is done, thank god for Jim Mora and good to see a coach and ad being on the same page.

It is only fair to name people you have met. I've got Dale Earnhart Jr. #1 and Tony Kornheiser #2. Since I worked with TK in the late 80s, He might have changed by now. I didn't perceive that DEJ had any potential for growth.
Please share how Dale Jr makes this list, never mind #1.

I've only had one questionable meeting with a known sports-associated figure, and that was Brent Musberger at Bobby V's in Norwalk in the 80s. We were in the men's room at the same time and he did not wash his hands after doing his business.

On the "didn't actually meet but was in the same space as a witness", gotta be Roethlisberger. Well known among bartenders and waitstaff as a complete spoiled deadbeat dnozzle, and I had a ringside seat to see it for myself, with running commentary from the barkeep and the unfortunate waitress who had his table.
Michael Vick. I stopped following the Steelers entirely when they hired this pathetic example. Sorry for a crime, perhaps. But anyone who enjoys and profits from dog fighting is beyond bottom of the barrel scum. Steelers are forever tainted.

Ty Cobb - Shoeless Joe said no one could stand that son of a bitch and that's good enough for me.

Big Ben seems OK. Lots of rich people are cheap bastards

Figures you'd like him. It's far more than being cheap. Like your idol, he's a major proponent of sexual assault and misogyny.

For all the crap (deserved) about Antonio Brown, wife and I were at a restaurant for Thanksgiving a few years ago while AB was there with family and friends. Couldn't have been nicer to everyone and apparently tipped well.

Another Steeler story... when wife worked downtown she leased a spot in a small parking lot. One night she found herself blocked in by a big black SUV. She went to complain and the car's owner overheard her. At first she was a bit afraid as a tall black man in leather and bling was coming towards her, but then he said, "I'm sorry, am I blocking you in? Please, let me move my car and sorry for the inconvenience." That was Plaxico Burress, who once shot himself by accident in a bar.

Ben was a world-class creep and likely would've told my wife to fff off after commenting on her breast size.

Yikes.

Who is his idol?
