It is only fair to name people you have met. I've got Dale Earnhart Jr. #1 and Tony Kornheiser #2. Since I worked with TK in the late 80s, He might have changed by now. I didn't perceive that DEJ had any potential for growth.

I've only had one questionable meeting with a known sports-associated figure, and that was Brent Musberger at Bobby V's in Norwalk in the 80s. We were in the men's room at the same time and he did not wash his hands after doing his business.

On the "didn't actually meet but was in the same space as a witness", gotta be Roethlisberger. Well known among bartenders and waitstaff as a complete spoiled deadbeat dnozzle, and I had a ringside seat to see it for myself, with running commentary from the barkeep and the unfortunate waitress who had his table.

I think OJ qualifies. I met him when I was 12 years old. He was super nice and let us all know he was looking for white women. Less than two years later Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman were murdered.

A year before that I tried to meet Cornelius Bennett and Thurman Thomas at a Knicks game and they told me to "get lost kid."

I've never met any of them but I've heard from people who know them that Brian Urlacher and Jim Harbaugh are major jag offs. The no tippin' Pippen thing is also true, he didn't tip anyone in this city.

There are former players who absolutely despise Calhoun. Most would call him a stand up guy.

Same with Ollie. People are complicated. One person's hero is another person's villain

I agree with them.

Just kidding - I have met Thurman and he’s awesome, but playing days I’m not surprised - a lot of those 90s Bills were jerks and party animals.

Was that #1 or #2 business? #1 can be possibly overlooked because you might have to touch a gross paper towel dispenser or door handles which is far worse than your junk. #2 would be a bridge too far. Is this a Seinfeld episode?

My aunt met him at a florist shop in Amherst (Buffalo) in the late 1960's, had no idea who he was other than "a very handsome, very well spoken,, very polite african american man." If she only knew . . .

A lot of fighters are complete and utter s. Not all, obviously... but it takes a certain amount of dickishness to be talented at hurting people.
So I should discourage my 8yo granddaughter's boxing lessons?

I think it’s often different for women. The USA Muay Thai (champ or runner up, maybe both in different years) - was a completely reasonable person to deal with. I didn’t mind helping her navigate health insurance claims.

Yeah I mean the video of him sucker punching an old man on a barstool for not taking a shot of his crappy whiskey was subhuman. What a loser.

Muay Thai organization is really convoluted at the national level. I think it's coming up in the '32 olympics and in all likelihood the best fighters are not going to be there. We just have no way to identify them.

There's not really even very clear delineations between pro and amateur. She could have been an absolute nobody or a star.

When I was competing in MT before I was a lazy slob, it was incredibly difficult to find fights. Someone would be 17-0 but actually suck because it's all from the weird events with like 4 fights in a weekend (USA Muay Thai does many of those). Some other guy would be 3-2 and a way, way better fighter because it was all one night events for legit promotions.

It makes it easy to sandbag. I'd show up to one fight and feel bad for my opponent 2 minutes in. Then in the next I get some "amateur" ringer from Spain who flattened me in the first round.

Christian Laettner of course.
I have it on very good authority - first person authority by multiple people - that the famous Rod Sellers incident was the result of several "N" word comments to many UConn players during their games as well as from the previous NCCA game of anti-semitic comments to Henefeld by more than one Duke player (Brian Davis / Laettner for sure). Supposedly Hurley would not participate and that was one of the reasons Laettner always got on him.

Also, these first-person witnesses claim that Duke made the Georgetown players look like angels comparatively in terms of cheap shots, unnecessary fouls, shoves, and general poor sportsmanship. And they did not like the Georgetown players. I kid you not.
