Been saying this for awhile....Nice report this week, take that chip shot to get on the board first and go from there.

I don't think this is really worth being critical of the coaches.

We should be able to get 1 yard inside the 10 and even if we don't the other teams is getting really bad field position.

Again, the math says that you should go so it can't be that bad of a call for the coaches.

I am way way way more bothered that we couldn't get the yard than they call.
But we didn't.... And we came away with zero points.
The winning team has the most points, not yards or field position.

Like I said, this team isn't consistent enough to turn down points, thinking there could be more around the corner.

That is on the coaches to manage.

Exactly. That's a reason why you go for it. Because you are more likely to score more points if you go for it.

Is this really that hard to grasp?

My bigger point is that the expected point differential is pretty small so this isn't even a decision worth arguing about.

We got greedy.

Shireffs is excellent at the QB sneak. Tebow-esque. However, if you try it 10 times in 6 weeks, Teams are going to counter it. Diminishing returns. I am sure Diaco/Verducci felt that BS superior positive yards was always going to be the case ... it is largely past the expiration date.

They need to keep teams spread out and run the sneak/ QB draw in these short yardage situations. They do not have the push they once had up front to simply mow over people in short yardage situations. It drives me nuts when they constantly invite 8-9 guys in the box when they cannot even block 4 consistently.

I think this is an accurate observation. Spreading the field moves guys out of the box and opens a little more room for the RB/QB. This is more effective for us than a power formation with 11 guys packed together. And on occasion, the defense will leave a guy uncovered giving a free pitch and catch for the first down.

Nice summary Biz. Pretty much agree with the assessment.

As disappointing as the loss was, the progress being made is undeniable. This is as balanced an offense as we have fielded in a very long time. Verducci is to be commended, because he inherited a total disaster. Sherrifs and Newsome will be terrific players for us.

As for Draco, he is doing a lot of the right things. I do think it would be a good thing if one of the older coaches took him aside and said, "Bob, let me help you on some of the game decisions when you might be a little too jacked". We left 6 points of chip shots in the first half, and they could very well have changed the complexion of the game.
