The View from Section 241 — Syracuse

Good analysis. As I said, it is not clear from the play by play that we were just waiting for the game to end. The problem was that none of the plays we called in the 4th quarter worked, not that we were just praying time would run out before they caught up.
I believe it is very clear that until the possession between the two Syracuse TD's we weren't just waiting for the game to end as we would have thrown maybe one pass in the two earlier fourth quarter possessions instead of 2-1 passing on both.

And, as others have said, had we run the ball each and every time we threw an incomplete pass, Syracuse might have run out of time before the second TD.

But hindsight is always 20:20. You can only judge based on whether the plays called were reasonable when they were called. And sometimes the answer is yes and they didn’t work because either the other team’s scheme for that play was better than our play call, or because their players outperformed ours.

The answer is NOT "running the ball each and every time we threw an incomplete pass". The answer is to complete those passes - AKA, execution. UConn failed to make plays and then began to clock watch.

I was not urging us to give up on passing. Just pointing out that in this case the inability to complete a pass not only kept us from moving the chains but also provided Syracuse with an extra 3 or 4 minutes.
