The traffic in players to Baylor

From a Louisville perspective, we are expanding our recruiting. Our 2016 class has 5 players who signed yesterday and they are from New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Florida and Colorado.

And you've got a freshman, Sam Fuehring, and sophomore, Myisha Hines-Allen, from New Jersey. Myisha is from the same town I am -- Montclair, NJ -- and watched her play many times over the course of her 4-year high school career.

Like everyone I have been reading what I can only describe as the traffic in players to Baylor. Of course other schools have been experiencing their own renaissance, but there is 'something' in what's going on at Baylor that is interesting. For one, it seems without end (of course it will end!) and their is a nervousness among some (contrasted with open delight from a few Baylor fans who-- trying as hard as they can-- cannot hide their giddiness) that flows over into conspiracy theories. But what exactly is going on in TX- both UT and Baylor have done well. Are Texans staying home (again)? Maybe the same holds true for the midWest (Ohio, etc). If this is so, how other schools (like Uconn) change their recruiting formula- given that the talent is certainly skewd to these areas of the country (if we accept the usual ranking systems)? I should quickly add here that not long ago we were debating the end of Baylor after Griner(sp) public statements.
Please no more father (Geno) knows best logic. Would be interesting if some of our TX members can add their knowledge.

Uconn (Geno) has modified it's area of interest and methods of recruiting a number of times since the 1980's. They drove cars, then buses, then commercial travel by air. They used local radio, CPTV to spread their image. Then ESPN spread it further, now SNY, ESPN,2,u CBS-sports, NBC sports, helps kids see that they can be seen in every game they play --IF they play at UConn. Even the most avid friend will not show up at EVERY game. This way they can stay home and watch. Is there anyone who does not believe the UConn ubiquitous image is by design?

I know the Duke posters will have a very good insight on this because they are famous for getting great players from out of state (especially the men). As for Maryland about 70% of our roster come from outside the state of Maryland. We have as many players on the roster from Ohio as we do from Maryland (3). Our #1 ranked recruiting class have two from Maryland, two from Georgia and one each from NJ and Idaho. (plus a transfer from Florida).

I think it is great that Texas and Baylor are keeping the kids in-state but I can't imaging this will continue in the future.

Most of the top NC talent grew up as either UNC fans and end up there... or they end up at the SEC schools. To put things in perspective....Duke has had 3 scholarship players from the state of NC in the past 15-17 or so years. Chante Black, Joy Cheek and Azura Stevens. Two years ago we had 4 players from the state of California.

To put things in perspective....Duke has had 3 scholarship players from the state of NC in the past 15-17 or so years. Chante Black, Joy Cheek and Azura Stevens. I figured; it's a big selling point, especially in WBB where players won't make a fortune in the pros.

They're 17-18 year olds, for goodness sakes. They have all sorts of people whispering in their ears. Wait a couple of years and see where all these "great players" are going to school. Coaching, Coaching, Coaching.
