Using the same formula I've used to compile Program of the Decade stats, I went ahead and came up with aggregate numbers. And without further ado, I give you the Program of 1982-2013 rankings!

Point system is as follows (not agreed upon unanimously by the BY, but generally considered reasonable). The idea was to reward regular season results (as measured by Tourney seeding), Tourney results (as measured by tourney rounds reached), with a special premium on championships (but not so special that it dwarfed consistent success).

#4 Seed- 5 points
#3 Seed- 10 points
#2 Seed- 20 points
#1 Seed- 30 points

Sweet 16 Finish- 5 points
Elite Eight Finish- 15 points
Final Four Finish- 30 points
National Runner-up- 40 points
National Championship- 70 points

The list:

1. Tennessee (1,840)
2. UConn (1,390)
3. Stanford (1,015)
4. La Tech (940)
5. Duke (635)
6. Georgia (630)
7. Texas (520)
8. UNC (505)
9. Purdue (450)
10. Maryland (445)
11. USC (425)
12. LSU (415)
13. Old Dominon (400)
t14. Notre Dame (395)
t14. Virginia (395)
16. Baylor (385)
17. Auburn (365)
18. Vanderbilt (340)
19. Texas Tech (335)
20. Penn State (325)
21. Long Beach State (310)
22. Rutgers (300)
23. Ohio State (295)
24. Iowa (220)
t25. Texas A&M (200)
t25. Oklahoma (200)

Note: as long as Tennessee continues to rack up #1 and #2 seeds and make the Elite 8 or better, the LVs are going to make it hard for UConn to overtake them. Tennessee was the #2 program of the 80s, the #1 program of the 90s, the #2 program of the '00s, and the #5 program thus far through the '10s. UConn was the #3 program of the '90s, the #1 program of the '00s, and is shaping up to be the #1 program of the '10s. However, no points in the '80s hurts.

Interesting list. Some as expected, some surprises, some "oh yeahs" (did you know Long Beach State was the #5 program of the 1980s?). Good times.

ummm hello, women's basketball didn't start til 1995. UCONN fans are supposed to know this. ;)

Nice job compiling the stats.

Im surprised that Duke is #5 considering no point accumulated between 1982-and maybe 1997

Duke had no points in the 1980s, 90 in the 1990s (one four seed, one three seed, one two seed, one Elite Eight, one National Runner Up), a whopping 405 in the 2000s, and 140 in the 2010s.

Good to see that one of the Bears teams that NC-runner-up Louisville beat this year got the ultimate revenge by beating them here 50-40, though Baylor again fell a little short at 40-35. Cal is celebrating big time.

I heard that Andy Landers, at the conclusion of this season, called Coach G and Coach P to congratulate them for Duke overtaking Georgia as the most successful program not to win a title. Everyone was touched.

I wonder, though, with all of our recent success might there not be some measure of achievement that would show us to be the equals of the Lady Vols, perhaps even on the verge of surpassing them? Oh, yes, that would be national championships!

Seriously ... great stuff. Would love to see 1990 (call that the beginning of the Geno era) through 2013.

If you exclude the 1980s, the results are below. UConn has the obvious advantage in terms of NCs since 1990 (eight to six), but 1990, 1992, and 1993 really hurt. Tennessee was already established as a national power, and UConn was still working to get there. Overall, Tennessee posted better results than UConn in nine years out of 10 in the 1990s, so the advantage endures...but just barely.

What would really help UConn catch up if you start with 1982 would be more seasons like 2009. UConn scored a 100 point season (#1 seed and NC), whereas Tennessee scored zero points. However, that's the only such season Tennessee has had since 1982.

Since 1990:

Tennessee 1395
Uconn 1390
Stanford 960
Duke 635
UNC 460
Purdue 450
La Tech 405
Georgia 405
Notre Dame 395
Baylor 385
LSU 360
Vanderbilt 340
Texas Tech 335
Virginia 305
Maryland 285
Penn State 270
Rutgers 215
A&M 200
Oklahoma 190
Ohio State 180
Texas 175
Old Dominion 155
Auburn 145
Colorado 145
Iowa 135

Thanks Alex! I was really hoping you would do this.

I think we have a pretty good shot at overtaking TN next year in the post 1990 rankings!
