I have read some pretty sad comments on this site in the last 15 hours. Yes, the team played very poorly yesterday. I give much of the credit for that to Larry Brown, a hall of fame coach who devised a gameplan that frustrated Shabazz, and by extension, took our whole team out of its rythym.

However, our record is still 21-6 and we are 9-5 in the conference. KO is still one of the best young coaches in the game and Shabazz is still a first team All American candidate. Brimah is going to be a beast in time, we have great recruits coming in over the next 2 seasons and Rodney Purvis becomes eligible in the fall.

Yes, the team played really badly yesterday. But on the whole, the outlook is still bright. I expect a much better effort on Wednesday night at USF. The sky is not falling.

To be honest, SMU kicked our butts. We were outcoached, outplayed, outhustled, and they had more poise. Congrats to them.

Here's what must be fixed. When a team game plans around taking away Bazz (as most teams do, the difference is that SMU had the players to actually do it) and forcing the ball into other hands, we need to make the game four Huskies against three opponents. KO said after the game we're still learning to trust each other. Something like that. KO could help that trust by running plays using guys other than the big three. We are so committed to the pick and roll, that we run it long after it ceases to be effective. Playing a little two man game away form Bazz and Boat. Like KO said, we have to learn to trust each other. That means everyone on the floor.

That said, I agree, the sky isn't falling. Not if they learn from this game.

The last time a team defended the high pick and roll so well against us was on April 4, 2011. We switched our offensive sets in the second half, and the rest is history. No changes were made yesterday even after it became apparent that they were blitzing Shabazz and Boat on the ball screens.
