AS everyone knows, UConn is now 30-0, with a huge Game #31 coming tomorrow. What does 30-0 mean?
Well for one thing, UConn has now won at least 30 games in 19 of the past 21 seasons. UConn fell short in 1999, winning 29 games before an upset in the Sweet 16, and in 2005, a season that culminated in another regional semifinals exit. But ever since UConn went 30-3 in 1994, you can almost set your watch to 30 victories.
How many times has UConn gone 30-0? A bunch: 1995, 1997, 2002, 2003, 2009, and 2010. As you well know, UConn finished undefeated national champions four times (1995, 2002, 2009, 2010), a once-defeated national champion in one season (2003), and 33-1 after being losing to eventual champion Tennessee in 1997's regional finals.
In short, five of six 30-0 starts resulted in NCs, with the lone exception stemming from a bad injury. Will we we mirror such results in 2014? Stay tuned; this will be memorable one way or another.
