There, I said it. I think the SEC, and especially Alabama, are killing this sport.

Last seven years 8 of the 14 teams have been from the SEC. I blame the BCS for the system not the SEC for having consistently good teams.

What? That's like saying America is bad for baseball, Europe is bad for soccer and Canada is bad for hockey. That's exactly what you're saying. If you want to drill down to a more micro level you're saying the Yankees and Red Sox are bad for baseball, Duke and Unc are bad for hoops and the old big east was bad for hoops.

Ford is bad for the USA, warm weather is bad for tourism on the cape and snow is bad for Vermont mountains

Ridiculous. Watching Alabama was a pleasure last night. There were no gimmicks. They played power football with discipline.

Underachieving Texas A&M hired a top notch coach as they entered the SEC and beat Alabama at Alabama. Florida St lost their edge as Bobby Bowden aged and they haven't gotten it back yet. Miami, in my opinion, is a has been. Ohio St will be back with Meyer. Texas needs a new coach as they have the greatest competitive advantage of any school. USC is under sanctions with a bad coach. And, Oregon had a chance to beat Alabama, but the lack of a playoff hurt them.

Football is cyclical and right now Alabama and the SEC are on top.

You don't think the regionalization/Balkanization of college football is hurting the sport?

How would that be bad for college football, that would be like saying it was bad for the NBA for the Celtics and Lakers to dominate the 80s. Having a BCS is bad, conference realignment is bad, NCAA is bad.

College football has always been regionalized. The reality is that there are plenty of athletes in the Northeast, but many of the top athletes play basketball over football. In the South, basketball players such as Jeff Adrien, Ben Gordon, Taliek Brown, Shabazz Napier, ... would probably play football.

When Syracuse was a national power, they took Northeastern athletes and made them football players. Someone will figure it out again.

The fact that there's different rules for different teams/conferences is bad for CFB. The sec is better at playing within their particular rules than anyone else...and Saban is better than any other in the sec.

It will be a long time before the Northeast could challenge the South in football. The long term demographic patterns make it nearly impossible given where they are now.

It definitely takes much of the fun out of college football when 50% of the top talent in the US is going to 6-8 SEC schools.

Ya, I can't blame em. Its good to be the king. And honestly, if it isn't UConn, to me I would rather have the Tide Roll than anyone [read teams or conferences] up here that we are actually competing with to have yet another competitive advantage for recruiting.

It's all cyclical. Teams like Alabama, USC, etc. weren't doing anything during the 80's and 90's and now they have all had or are having great runs. Other teams will rise to challenge or replace them, but they won't be from the Northeast. There just aren't enough good football players or any real compelling reasons for enough kids to leave a warm weather area and head North for that to happen.

I agree with most of this, but a north east team could dominate again. PennState had a really good run. All of the reasons that factor against the northeast also apply to the northwest and Oregon is doing well. I think it largely comes down to hiring a really great coach. The B1G was supposedly never going to compete with the SEC, but I'll bet urban Meyer has OSU competitive with them in a few seasons. If UConn, Syracuse or BC could find and keep the next Chip Kelly or Nick Saban, they'll compete with the SEC. Obviously it's a lot tougher, but it's possible, and will probably happen in the next 20-30 years. Who knows, maybe P's replacement will be that guy.

Oregon has something that no other school has.....The funding source also known as Phil Knight.

The SEC is willing to do things with their athletic programs that other schools are not willing to do. How does the SEC get 4* recruits to come sit on the bench for 3 years when they could be starting somewhere else as a freshman? Maybe Cam Newton's dad has the answer.

I'm sure the fans of other women's basketball programs would make the same arguement - it hurts the sport when there's no parity and results are highly concentrated in one program or conference.

he's saying that northern football is dying slowly, and if you don't believe that, you need to look at the trends in the northern standard-bearing programs, becuase they are all shells of thier former selves.

simple answer, move the season to summer. Who wants to play in FL or AL in the middle of July or August?

If Kemba Walker was born 900 miles to the south, he would have been a starting CB on the Georgia Bulldogs. The best athletes in the north play basketball, not football.

Moreso, the talent difference represents priorities. High schools in Florida have roughly double the practice time over the course of a year that high schools in the northeast have. Should 15 to 18 year old boys be spending time on a football field or in the classroom?

The coach is the key. Look at Oregon State with Mike Riley. Look at Washington State with Mike Price. Top coaches are migrating south cause the pay is greater but Urban Meyer will have OSU butting heads with those guys. I think Brady Hoke could be real good, you saw Brian Kelly this year and he's just getting started if he stays. The coach will be always be the key in college sports.
