. . . of the Boneyard! (Thanks, Tony.)
After weeks of looooong threads about Tennessee's recruiting, especially Jannah Tucker's mind changes, and assorted other OT topics, Sandy is leaving and the most promising 2012-2013 season has begun. With a BANG!

And our Tony took only about 2,000 words to tell us that he couldn't quite find the right words to describe his excitement. So let me offer some help.

I recently purchased a "used book" (by way of the Woodbridge, Ontario, public library) that has been out of circulation for years: "Lyrics" (complete) by Oscar Hammerstein II, the incomparable lyricist who worked with 17 composers, most notably Richard Rogers (Oklahoma, South Pacific, King and I, Carousel, Sound of Music, etc.)

And right there on page 130 were words that were written years ago but which fit the current mood of the Boneyard. Some samples:

"I'm as restless as a willow in a windstorm,
I'm as jumpy as a puppet on a string."
"I am starry-eyed and vaguely disconnected,
Like a nightengale without a song to sing."
"I'm as busy as a spider, spinning daydreams,
I'm as giddy as a baby on a swing."

The song was "It Might as Well Be Spring." I got stumped trying to replace that line. Would "The NC Quest Has Now Begun" work? I don't think so; suggestions are welcome.

Maybe some other lines, like "I'm as pesky as a poster on the Boneyard." (Hey, we're not Hammerstein but let's find some right words to help Tony.

C'mon, 'Yarders, let's have some "Happy Talk" (South Pacific).

. . . Sandy is leaving

Right now I am having a bit of a problem getting excited and upbeat for the season. The storm may have departed, but the after effects will linger for a very long time. I have been working almost non-stop since even before Sandy came on shore. While I myself was not impacted, not even losing power for a change, I am the ONLY person who truly knows how our claim application works from a configuration perspective to assign claims, dispatch property inpsections, auto appraisers, and in short get our claim adjusters where then need to be to get the people impacted back on their feet as quickly as possible. There has been one challenge after another because this storm has been unlike any other, primarily because we have 4 key claim offices in CT who were offline after the storm, and many staff members are dealing with power outages and their own personal damage or losses to their homes. In fact, I am working right now - waiting for a process to finish so I can troubleshoot a problem in the application.

I am desperately hopeful that things will calm down by Wednesday so I can sit down and enjoy a couple hours of my favorite leisure activity. But there is the real possibility that I will need to stay working and have to miss the game at the XL Center. Which I will happily do. It is not just my job...it is my way of helping out those that are so horrendously impacted by the devastation of this storm. I may not be able to contribute a large financial donations to the restoration efforts, but if I can get our claims operations to get the adjusters out and quickly manage the claims and get folks back on the road to recovery, it is my honor to do so.

Once things settle down here at work, THEN I will be able to get psyched up for the season.

Hang in there, Chapette! This is a tough situation.

My area was spared, but my son's office in TriBeCa is still closed, and my niece's town on the North Jersey Shore was devastated.

Best wishes to those impacted by the storm in myriad ways!

I don't have a choice because I literally am the only person who knows how all the setup works. I have to hang in. That which doesn't kill me makes me stronger.

But, once this is over, I am asking for a couple of comp days and I better get a big freaking raise next year....if the company has any money left after paying all the claims, that is!

Hey Chappette contact me if ya need to talk! Use the board which is here for you
This goes for any of the storm victims who may have been so effected!

"Think in terms of all of the victims that you are helping"

Kibbitzer love it!Worthy of providing lyrics and songs will do so in future

You seriously ought to report this to your risk management department. A company should never have any key function understood by only one employee.

Ya think? The company downsized/outsourced a couple years ago and let most of the knowledge walk out the door. I was one of those whose position was eliminated, but fortunately I found a new home exactly because of the depth of my knowledge. A double edged sword I guess.

They would figure it out eventually if I was not here. They would be scrambling now if I hadn't have found another job in the business side of the house (used to be in IT). As the saying goes, it is what it is. In a couple of years this application will be replaced and there will be boatloads of knowledgable people. For now, they got me!

Sorry I hijacked the thread....carry on with the upbeat mindset. I will join in again when my mind reaches that point!

Hey Chappy....I don't think that you have to worry about anyone not appreciating what you do here on the BY and I am sure, knowing who I know who has been affected by this storm, that the folks on the other end really, really appreciate someone who knows the business, and can help them especially after these days of helplessness.

And to speak to you from the job perspective, I, too have a wealth of knowledge of my particular side of the business, yet after almot 15 years, reagardless of any downside, my position was outsourced as well. They keep extending me, but at some point it had to come to an end. Strangely enough, when my last day was supposed to occur, the office was under 8 feet of water so technically I am still on the payroll until I can have my exit interview. Funny thing - it will be rescheduled for Wednesday when - well, what do you know - we are having another big storm.

Think they will get the message? Acts of God are pretty hard to ignore. Probably not, but I might mention that on my way out.

Have a wonderful day. RL

Chappette, surely you know that 'Yarders like Tony and I were trying to lift spirits of friends in a difficult time.

Permit me to once again look to Oscar Hammerstein II for the right words:

"Climb ev'ry mountain,
Ford every stream.
Follow every rainbow
Till you find your dream."
Or:

"You'll never walk alone."

Chapette
I actually wrote a masters thesis, not long ago about (among other things) the phenomenon of information not being passed down and every new generation re-discovering the wheel (in this case, the orchestra business).
In China now, where I worked extensively from the 80's-to the turn, knowledge like mine is sorely needed, but I'm too old, no interest.
I think that people taking their best ideas to the grave is very common; the only remedy is to write them down.
And increasingly, that is what I do.

Kib, I'm worried that this is the kind of season where if anyone (Baylor excepted) hangs tough, we'll all complain that the team is a failure!

The more I think about it the more I'm thinking it had something to do with the shows The Jersey Shore, and/or Jersey Housewives.

I suppose you could think that. But I know a lot of people, good people, with families who grew up on the Jersey Shore, playing minigolf, splashing in the ocean, walking down the main streets tanned and smelling of Coppertone, whose kids brought their kids who brought their kids. There are far more of these kinds of folks, far far more than that abysmal representation of a "reality show". If God was anxious to right a wrong, all the more power to him, but he must have had a bad day because his aim was way off

I was a lifeguard at Jenkinson's in Point Pleasant. Great experience, except for the sadistic "training" sessions at 6AM, like rowing the lifeboats out through the surf. I wonder if they still do that?

No panties Rady, I was just injecting some humor into an awful "situation".

I knew a lot of people too. For many years my now ex-wife and I and the kids vacationed at her grandfather's house in Cape May Point.I wonder how his old house held up. The family sold it off years ago after he died.

Yea, He don't really work like that.

Chap, i expect you're keeping Harry in the background for equilibrium.
