100%. Whenever we go to see the Seton Hall men there we head “down neck” for amazing food.I like going to see games in Walsh. Small courts like that have their own charm. It reminds me of the era where teams all had their own small little band boxes.
That said, it has become increasingly more difficult to get tickets. The Prudential center is nice, but definitely a different experience. FYI, if the games ever do get moved to the Rock, building the time to go and eat in Newark Ironbound section. It's a short, reasonably safe, walk from the arena and the food is amazing, albeit a little bit pricey, depending on which place you go to.
The Holiday Festival. It was a major event. Traditionally the defending national Champion or preseason sports illustrated number 1 team was invited. I saw a triple header final there where St John’s upset #1 Michigan with Cazzie Russell in an amazing come from behind game. I also saw in the third place game Bill Bradley put on a show and in the fifth place game a great overtime game. It was the greatest basketball night of my life. We sat in the student StJohns section. We got home to Newark at about 2am. It was a coming of age night for me as a young teenager. My buddies and I would go to the "OLD GARDEN" to see the
final of the HOLIDAY FESTIVAL. Back in prehistoric times the
final was a triple-header! Three games for one price! Some student (?)
from St. Joe's (Philly) would bring a hawk and release it to
fly around the GARDEN! (It was trained to come back!). Their
mascot is a hawk and the St. Joseph's motto is: "THE HAWK WILL
NEVER DIE!" Other teams in the "FESTIVAL" (held between Christmas
and New Years) included Princeton, Columbia, Manhattan,
and a mixture of schools from around the country. Great Stuff!
WE WERE AT THE SAME GAMES!!! WONDERFUL MEMORIES.... and affordable!!!The Holiday Festival. It was a major event. The finals we saw were January 2, 1965. In the semis on December 30th, Bradley had 41 and Cazzie had 27 but Bradley fouled out with 4:43 to go with a 13 point lead. They lost at the buzzer on a Cazzie jumper. Many consider it the greatest Holiday festival ever.WE WERE AT THE SAME GAMES!!! WONDERFUL MEMORIES.... and affordable!!!
I just read about it again. in the 5th place game LaSalle beat Syracuse. Orange backcourt was Dave Bing and......Jim Boeheim.WE WERE AT THE SAME GAMES!!! WONDERFUL MEMORIES.... and affordable!!!

Semis or Finals? That was the game I was at...
I'm not sure and couldn't find an answer online, but it was December 30, 1964. I do remember (but didn't attend) Bradley's 58 point performance in the tournament in the Spring to determine 3rd place.Semis or Finals?
Umm, Bradley scored 58 pts in a gameI on March 30, 1965 vs Wichita State in the 3rd place game (back when they played a 3rd place game) of the NCAA championship. Excellent idea! Enticements are always goodBack in the Dark ages I spent 8 years in NYC, going to college and working for a few years after. I loved watching college basketball at the old MSG. It was just the men back then. It’s been awhile, but I’ve signed up to get a notice once tix are available and my wife and I are thinking about making the trip.
In order to entice my better half, I’m selling the trip to the Big Apple as a package deal, to include dinner at Gallagher’s Steakhouse and a Broadway show…. 😉
That's national championship tickets right there. Bait and switch: skating at Central Park or Rockefeller Center?Excellent idea! Enticements are always good
Right, the game on December 30th, 1964 was the semis of the Holiday Festival. Bradley had 41 and fouled out and Michigan won on a Cazzie jumper. The finals were on January 2nd. That's the game I went into. My brother had gone to the semis and wanted me to see Bradley play. Like I said above, it was the greatest night of basketball I was ever at.Umm, Bradley scored 58 pts in a gameI on March 30, 1965 vs Wichita State in the 3rd place game (back when they played a 3rd place game) of the NCAA championship. My memory gets boggled up too. A lot of stuff banging around up there… 🧐
"Starting at $199" is a great way to hold attendance down. No thanks.MSG has tickets available for the St Johns game. Don't look if you're faint of heart.
Go to the ESPN UConn page and click on the St.Johns game. You will " tickets available" through Vivid Seats. They start at $199.
Just a head's up. That link takes me to the SJU game at People's Bank Arena (fka the Civic Center).Ok, so to stop everyone from running amok, below is the link to Seat Geek which has tickets starting at $17
SJU usually charges $15 for general admission to their women's games.
Perfect for watching a full half of our full court press. Hopefully Geno runs the Diamond and you can see Blanca at the point during the right half. When I had floor seats at USF, I watched Blanca carefully. So deceptively long and fast. Very impressive.Just purchased 2 tix on Vivid in the lower section-baseline for just under $200 each. That’s more than I would have preferred to pay, but a lot less than along the sidelines where they’re starting at $500 each.
Purchased my tix weeks ago and just booked my hotel. Looking forward to visiting my old stomping ground in the Big Apple.Presale tickets go on sale TODAY at 12:00 EST, with presale code (all caps) STJHOOPS through your Ticketmaster account. After last night’s game, you might say “why bother going to NYC, I’ll watch it on TV (or streaming, etc.). That mindset will doom this from happening again. If you have the ability, if it isn’t crazy expensive, and you are fairly close, go and have a great time in the city!
Old stomping grounds? Was that the Bristol stomp?Looking forward to visiting my old stomping ground in the Big Apple.
I love Geno's story that he was so impressed and pleased when Coach Wooden told him that end that he was a fan of the way Geno coached the game. Sometime later they met again and Geno was looking forward to talking to him. When Geno went up to him, Coach Wooden said "nice to meet you" apparently having no recollection of their prior conversation. Why towards the end of his life, John Wooden's favorite basketball team was the UConn women!
Nope….the Westside of Manhattan.Old stomping grounds? Was that the Bristol stomp?
