The Reason For It All- Sanogo

I love him and think his footwork is incredible for a freshman but I wouldn't mind seeing him kick it out occasionally when he gets into trouble and then get it right back after establishing better position in the post. If he develops a reliable, little corner jumper also like Emeka did, he'll be tough to defend. His future is bright.

The difference between Nov and Now is three things

1. Bouknight progressed and has reached Boss Level Scorer. If he gets going, its on.

2. Sanogo & RJ gained confidence and emerged as clear solid secondary options who can own entire possessions and responsibility from a scoring perspective. RJ as 1v1 shooter & Sanogo as 1v1 Post scorer.

3. When Bouknight was hurt, everyone had to step up their games and find where they belonged on this team - Polley as a specialist shooter with 3-6 plays per game run for him; Whaley as junkyard dog and willing shooter; Ajax as swiss army facilitator and defender;

I've said before, I don't think he has enough handle or a shot 15 ft and out to jump to the pros in 3 years. I think he's a 4 year Husky. Good for us and he'll get there but he's just too locked in the paint to jump sooner, IMO.

Exactly. He’s not 7’ a freak athlete or having a mean streak. No 3 point game or facilitation skills. He’s an old school big East 5. He’s ours for 4. Good for us. Bad for them.

He had way more back to the basket game than Oriakhi who he was comparing as a best last post player. Shonn Miller had way more post moves than Oriakhi could dream about and was our last good inside player. Sanogo is better than him but I have no idea why the poster called Oriakhi a back to the basket player. Shonn definitely was better than him. I think people forget his post game and how important it was to that 2015-16 team as both Facey and Brimah didn't have one.

Yes, Miller is the version I wish Martin would be. Miller was a 3/4 combo and could post up 4's. By no means was Miller someone you could dump the ball down to in the post and take on the biggest defender. Sanogo has shown he can do it.
 
They are all important and contributing. That’s what is emerging and making them incredibly dangerous. You can’t just key on Bouk. Gaffney stepping up is a big add to an already deadly Guard combo. Whaley stroking some 3s and doing inside work, Martin banging the boards and scoring, and Sanogo being a paint threat opens the floor up big time. As long as they don’t revert to the old O and continue tonpush the ball up and shoot earlier in the clock, we can take it to the best.

We were on a west coast vacation some years back, and my daughter brought her GPS for the rental car along, It proved very useful, and very entertaining, as well. We spent two days in Vegas, where it seems every street is a boulevard. That GPS butchered the word so badly we cracked up every time we went around a corner. Boowelleevarrrrd. It also read every occurrence of DR as Doctor instead of Drive.

The improved play comes from a lot of guys stepping up, figuring it out, avoiding negative plays but if you are pointing to one guy (other than Bouk because let's be serious, he frees up everything else), it's Cole by a wide margin. Fewer turnovers, fewer blind drives and a much more consistent and comfortable shot.

While not quite to the level of Boatright, who will forever be the standard for a guy making a huge leap at the end of a season, Cole has come alive. Until recently this team was defense, Bouk and points in the paint. If teams have to extend to play Cole and Bouk on the perimeter then you get a version of what happened yesterday. The entire team gets good looks at the basket. If Bouk is hitting his 3's then he becomes unstoppable against college players and things really open up on offense.
 
This is the first team in a long time where there isn't anyone on the team I cringe at them taking a shot (well, maybe Polley and Adam's sometimes since they are so streaky).

Someone who coached him early really knew what they were doing. Had him perfect footwork and jump hook over both shoulders and knew that alone would take him a very long way. The rest he can fill in along the way.

If you watched the video he was matched up at times with the center where he could jump over or go past them with his athletic talent and still he had a better post up game the Oriakhi could ever dream about. The original poster just said inside player that we could dump the ball to when we needed a basket as he didn't specify center. To me big guy is our either your PF or C position and Shonn was definitely that.

I think Shonn suffers from only playing here for a year. And the stinker vs Kansas. Dude was really good for us. Just had his worst game as a Husky in his final one.
 
A jump hook with someone as strong and wide as AS is virtually unstoppabe/unblockable once you get some space from your defender through your body fakes and foot work. The fact that he is effective with either hand makes it that much more difficult to defend.

Have also noticed his teammates spacing better for him once he receives the ball in the paint allowing him to iso his guy and not dribble into double teams as much.

Looks like he's even gaining some confidence in his mid-range game facing the basket. Fun to watch him evolve in front of our eyes.

His midrange shot is still a little bit of a push shot but besides that this guys is super impressive with his Kevin McHale footwork. He is going to a great post score for us for a couple more years at least and I like how his defense has progressed this year to where you have to keep him on the floor as he isn't a big minus there anymore.

Yeah, his midrange shot put looks like early Shaq.

If Sanogo ever developed Mchale's over the top and behind the head J he would be unstoppable. As would any other big having a release point that high.

Hated McHale as a player (Sixer fan as a kid) but his offensive skill set was lethal.
