the REAL dynasty in college football...

No doubt. They’re actually an FBS program masquerading as an FCS. They should upgrade and become a member of the Big West or even the Mountain West with Boise St. etal.

Forget about Alabama. North Dakota St. just claimed their 9th FCS Championship in the last 11 years. Under 3 different head coaches. They've figured out a winning formula there.
And in D3, there's a team that is great.Offhand, I can't remember the name...

Big West?

Mount Union
They play Wisconsin-Whitewater for the Championship almost every year. This year neither of them made it that far.

Great baseball conference…
Exactly. NDSU's baseball team deserves some respect and attention. The Bison set a school record for conference wins this spring. Currently in the Summit Conference. Should move to the Big West.

There are a couple of powerhouses Mary Baldwin Baylor, MU,UW-Wisc, Linden and then you have a bunch of upstate NY programs that kick the crap out each other that are generally at whole other level than the rest - Ithaca, Hobart, Union, Cortland, RPI, etc..

  • There is no Big West FB conference.
  • NDSUs stadium is too small and not expandable (it’s a dome) so it would fail NCAA minimums, if they are enforced.
  • they can go 13–1 and compete for a championship every year or go FBS and hope they can pull off 7-5 and get an invite to the Idaho Potato Bowl every other year

So I guess it’s a bad idea but I’ve been to Fargo several times on business. All it takes are a few of their local Jerry Jones-like fracking moguls financing a bigger stadium to watch their Bison play the big boys, mostly to feed their egos but also to avoid that now boringly repetitive annual visit to Frisco TX. Probably won’t happen, and I couldn’t care less, but life is full of surprises.

Since it’s been brought up…

-> To be clear, while the Bison are obviously more than ready to play at the FBS level from a competitive standpoint, there’s no indication a move is imminent, as NDSU faces challenges in making the move due to geography.

Namely, there isn’t a conference that’s a particularly good fit. The Mountain West is the one most often floated by Bison fans and media, but that league extends to California (well, Hawaii, actually) and the closest school to Fargo is Colorado State, some 800 miles away. Not ideal. The MAC (MidAmerica Conference) isn’t all that attractive. That league may offer 85 scholarships, but there’s little to suggest those teams are actually better than NDSU (or SDSU, for that matter). <-

Sagarin, this last season, rated ND State as #41 in strength on the Predictor Scale....not bad for an FCS team.

Why be just another mullet in the ocean when you can be the Koi in a goldfish pond.

My friend's son signed with NDSU back in 2016. 6-6 250 OL. He had offers from Big 12 schools. Didn't play much but it NDSU can get kids who have P5 offers.

If NDSU eventually decides they really want to join an FBS conference, geography won't be the roadblock. If geography was an intractable impediment, Columbus would never have sailed. Airplanes are pretty reliable.

Herei s the problem with competing with the top of the FBS.

Last season, Ohio State and Alabama playind in the Final...and in the 2021 NFL draft had 10 players from each team drafted....20 juniors and seniors from Bama and OSU.
