The Official Tourney Thread

Welcome to the Gonzaga Invitational folk$. Carolina has the best shot to beat them (if they even advance) but Gonzaga may hang 100 on them and that should be plenty. EZ.

Gotta disagree with this, Bell isn't getting dominated by anybody and Oregon's side of the bracket is much stronger.

Seriously. Gonzaga just beat an 11 seed to make the final 4 and Oregon had to play a road game against Kansas and will now have to face the UNC/Kentucky winner.

Yah but if the Zags win (or if it is Oregon or S. Carolina), at least it will be someone new. That is all I want at this point. Please no UNC or Kentucky or Florida...Please.

UConn beat a 10 seed (I think they're still playing this year) to make their first Final Four. You can only beat who is in front of you.

On the scale of Kansas tournament flame-outs, this one ranks pretty far down the list. They just weren't that good.

That said, Self got out-coached. It was interesting to see a team on their way to the final four playing a match-up zone. I guess those gimmicks work sometimes, huh?

This game was a great representation of what a great shot-blocker can do for a team when he's put in the right scheme. Bell dominated that game defensively.

I wanted to give a shout out to Stockton, a class act from Gonzaga who got to see his alma mater make the final four for the first time ever. I love this quote: "In June, Stockton was selected by the Utah Jazz in the first round of the 1984 NBA draft with the 16th overall pick.[17] A relative unknown during his college career, his stock rose significantly in the months before the draft.[18] The announcement of his selection to the thousands of Jazz fans gathered at the Salt Palace on draft day was met with a stunned silence"

They did not remain silent for long! He was one of my favorite NBA players ever.

Wonder where Oregon would be if Boucher didn't get hurt. Seems like dudes have really stepped up in his absence.

I was telling my wife how Jordan bell wanted to go to uconn but there were academic red flags so we didn't go after him that hard.

As soon as he did his post game interview and started thanking Jesus and blabbering on she looked at me and said "I can see why there might have been academic issues"

Hey, did you guys catch the two Uconn shout outs? Kemba and Napier!

edit: I am glad Barkley said he hates all these timeouts...
Can you summarize what was said and by who?

Huh? That was in reference to the guy saying that Oregon has/had a much easier road than Gonzaga.

Basically just talking about players ability to take over games and create their own shots in crunch time. Kemba and bazz were the examples they gave

Kenny Smith just name dropped them both as examples of guys we've seen who are able to create and make their own shots when talking about how Oregon having guys like that (Dorsey and Brooks specifically).

I'm taking that as a personal insult.

Someone get Goodman on the phone.

They played a road game vs Kansas because they weren't good enough to be protected on the 1 line. Absent Trevon Duval showing up a year early to Zona...Gonzaga would have waxed them also.

Ha ha!!! Kansas got Kasongoed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sadly I missed the game. How did Ray do?

I'd be pretty happy if anyone other than the KY-UNC winner wins. Been a long time since there's been that many teams left this late that I can root for. Of course the chances are, the KY-UNC winner is winning this thing.

Am I crazy for thinking that if a blue blood MUST win I'd prefer it be UNC?

For some reason they dont really threaten me very much. We have had very little to no direct beef as programs and in the back of my mind I know UNC is in royalty territory so adding another title isnt really changing the status quo as much as say if Duke or KU won, or UK out of pure hatred for the system they implement.

I don't want Roy to have the same amount of Natties as Calhoun.

I'm banking on the NCAA setting that record straight before its all said and done, at least I hope.

As a UConn fan since the Toby Kimball era, I was fortunate enough to have been only a 6 hour drive to see UConn reach its first Final 4 in Phoenix. The Huskies beat Gonzaga to reach that milestone in March 1999. With all their success since then, its wild Gonzaga has needed 18 years just to reach the next round of the NCAAs. Makes UConn's 4 national titles since then just so amazing.

I wonder if anyone is still alive from the last Oregon team to make the Final Four.

Oregon is about 17 hours from Phoenix. Spokane approx 20 hrs. If any of those guys have a pulse they will be there. They may be nearing 100 years old. They don't have the depth to win the title. No lottery pick coming off the bench for Oregon.

they should have been banned and other punishments thrown at them... their letter to the ncaa was arrogant... i dont want them tied with us, i dont want roy near calhoun...id rather vomit and have kentucky than them... ill be supporting and finding a witch doctor to help oregon, zags, or usc/florida win

I'm expecting big numbers from Spokane, this is their year and their fans know how hard it is to get there.

oregon, gonzaga, and uf/usc better buy the FF and NC tickets asap bc kentucky if they win will fill the place

If Florida wins this, it would be their 3rd title so go S. Carolina! Uconn doesn't need more company (teams with more than 2 championships).

I'm not giving guarantees ... but Florida is not winning the NC next week. They are playing well in the Madness; but, don't have the requisite pieces ... and I am not thinking Allen or Hill are guards to play them through.
