Projected opening day lineup:

SS: Francisco Lindor
LF: Juan Soto
3B: Bo Bichette
1B: Jorge Polanco
CF: Luis Robert Jr.
2B: Marcus Semien
Dan Hurley: Brett Baty/Mark Vientos
C: Francisco Alvarez
RF: Carson Benge

1. Freddy Peralta, RHP
2. Nolan McLean, RHP
3. Clay Holmes, RHP
4. Sean Manaea, LHP
5. David Peterson, LHP
6. Kodai Senga, RHP

Bullpen: Closer: Devin Williams (RHP), Setup: Luke Weaver (RHP), High-Leverage: Brooks Raley (LHP), Luis Garcia (RHP), Middle/Depth: Huascar Brazoban (RHP), Tobias Myers (RHP), Adbert Alzolay (RHP)

Note: AJ Minter should be in the pen once he's healthy and Jonah Tong and Christian Scott are potential rotation adds at some point.

1) The lineup is much stronger in working the lineup and striking out less. Alonso won't be as missed if Robert Jr and Polanco are better this year than last year.
2) Mauricio, Ty Taylor and Torrens represent decent bench depth. Mauricio and Vientos need to be productive major leaguers after discussing trades all winter and staying put here.
3) Watching Benge all spring makes me feel much, much better about trading Nimmo.
4) Watching the WBC, seeing the passion and energy from Soto, he better carry that over to our clubhouse and lineup. I'm banking on him really taking a leadership step this year, much like Lindor did after a quiet leadership role in his first season.

The talk around this team seems to be very low going into this season, but I like that. They should be a very good team and win the division. The pitching doesn't have a lot of big names but the depth in starting pitching is outstanding. It's amazing how different just having that ace at the top of the rotation makes everyone else look better in their role

The buzz on Manaea is not good right now. His arm is just not the same and his fastball is barely cracking 90 and I saw one prediction he could be released by end of May if things stay on this track.

I was super excited about his prospects when he was pitching well for us and thought he was like an Andy Pettitte type. I guess the mileage on his arm just caught up to him.

Just looking at this. The 4 outfielders. Early season, maybe a tight back or hammy. Who's the emergency OF? Jared Young? He has like 2 games in the OF over the last couple seasons, doesn't he? Baty?

They kept Young and sent down Vidal Brujan who plays 6 positions, including the OF. Not sure I would have kept a tomato can like Young over him.

Baty has apparently been working a bunch in the OF, but Jared Young has experience there. He has 325 games at 1B and 195 in the OF in his career

So I'm watching The Leadoff Spot on MLB this morning and up pops a commercial for CarShield featuring "MLB Legend" Howard Johnson. Gotta give his agent props because I'd all but forgot about the guy and I was a huge Mets fan during his tenure. I doubt the average baseball fan remembers anything about the guy.

Needless to say, Cashen should've never dumped Ray Knight!

HoJo was 30/30 in three different seasons. He was a stud.

Didn't win a WS MVP and didn't win his brawls. Stat compiler like McReynolds - boring.

I loved those 84-86 teams. I watch the 30 for 30 "Once Upon a Time in Queens" at least twice a year. But Cashen did the equivalent of only looking at the stats and not the chemistry/intangibles. Knight and Mitchell weren't as important as Keith and Carter, but Mets lost a ton of heart when they were unceremoniously shipped out.

Btw, the tactic of fouling off Skenes repeatedly has been an issue with why Skenes hasn't consistently gone deep in games. Mets did an excellent job with that today. But if our CF was wearing sunglasses, it would've been more manageable, lol.

Not much to complain about in Game 1.

I think we’re going to love watching Semien and Lindor up the middle. He’s clearly slick in the field.

Bichette fouled off approximately 327 pitches today. He is not an easy out and back to back with Soto is going to cause fits.

Wondering what Benge’s ceiling is. Is he our PCA?

Quiet here after a 3-1 start. The only loss was 4-3 in extras and Lindor being cut down at the plate on a questionable send.

Starting pitching has been "good". One of the highlights for me so far is Tobias Myers. 4 1/3 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 4 K. I feel like he is going to be a key part of the Peralta trade that looked like a toss in at the time.

Bichette and Polanco have been shaky in spots at 1B/3B but I'll keep the jury out on that for a while.

Been watching and following but until the basketball season ends I can only be partially invested. Kind of think this team will be quietly good all year but never flashy. Outsiders won't pay much attention but look up in July and they're 25-30 games above .500

Impressed with a lot of the at bats guys are taking even if the results still aren't really there for guys like Bichette and Semien yet.

Starting pitching I'm comfortable with. Defense and bullpen have been shaky, the defense I think will improve as they get more time at new positions, the bullpen I suspect we're looking to add guys midseason. Not bad by any stretch, just not too confident when Lovelady comes in. But he's probably gone when Minter is healthy anyway.

Here is the pen so far and I removed Lovelady just for kicks. I hate him and cannot fathom why he's on this roster.

I feel like there’s something here. There could be a good team from these parts, I feel like they need chemistry. Grimace, OMG type chemistry and I’m not sure if the Lindor/Soto drama is preventing it.

I will say the pen with Myers, Weaver and Williams has not missed Diaz yet. Williams is off to an equal start to Diaz so far.

It is April 10th and Francisco Lindor has, count ‘em, zero RBIs. 14 games. Though tonight is not over. Los Mets no bueno amigos.

And he’s made a handful of DREADFUL mental errors so far. Like bush league stuff.

Is he the problem?

Notorious slow starter, but this is bad so far. When he does get on base with his mittens on he falls asleep.
Then Bichette, who is swinging like the Gas House Gorillas cartoon.
We should be thankful through all this woeful hitting and 14 games they aero still .500.

And Semien (.196), Benge (.125) and Polanco (.200).

If Pete was off to a scorching start in Baltimore, I'd be on the ledge right now.

Happy flight out west Amazin’s! WTF.
I am in Puerto Rico on vacation, btw, ironic.
Missed the blue/white, did not see any of the sweep this weekend thankfully.

So happy the Mets “stole” Mr Team Player Juan Soto. He is what he is and will never live up to that ridiculous contract.

I'm the eternal optimist, but this Mets team is really pushing that to the limit this year. I've watched maybe 10 innings all year, life has been crazy recently. But every day I look and the stats just keep getting worse

I love how butthurt Yankee fans still get over Soto. From the guys that signed Stanton to a 12 yr deal they got torched on and a team that paid Jacoby Ellsbury for absolutely nothing.

But I never reveled in both deals like they were good. I knew the were bad deals. Mets fans however were over the moon that they got Soto, when everyone who was not a Met fan knew it was a franchise killing move, for certain. The Mets will continue on their same trajectory for the foreseeable future.

It's also pretty funny to show up and make that claim when they're 3-10 since he got hurt

Uhh Ohh that’s 11 in a row Soto better hurry his ass up and get off the DL.

It’s also pretty funny to crash a Mets thread about a guy that played one season for you and has been gone for over a year now.

This is a historically bad hitting team.
However: Gotta win tonight, right? McLean on the mound.

But just for the record, it is 4/21. Francisco Lindor has 1 RBI. Tonight he doubles that.

You're home. You had a day off. You're fast becoming the laughingstock of the league (if we're not already there). Mendy, Stearns and Cohen are all taking bullets.

At some point, doesn't pride kick in? Don't you have some fire in your belly as a major leaguer to at least look like you're trying your best?
As for Lindor, our "captain", I am willing to acknowledge he missed all of the spring and is still recovering from the hamate bone issue, but the smiling, fraternizing with other players at 2B, the multiple mental mistakes are a terrible look. Time to sack up.

Mets should just DFA Devin Williams now and save yourselves a season of angst. Yankee fans have seen this movie before.

Mendy has to go. I think he lost the clubhouse last year and this team just is not responding.

12 straight and counting. Could this team break the Mets expansion season record for most losses in a season? I am hoping so…..

In order to win 90 games and be in position for a WC spot, they need to go 83-54 (.606) the rest of the way.

Their best month last season was July (.583)
In June and Sept of 2024, they were the best team in baseball with .667 and .654.
Their best month in 2023 was July .609.

Translation, they're all done. This stretch basically requires them to play the best baseball they've played in almost 3 years to climb back. With no answer at 1B, Semien's bat looks ancient, no single pickup contributing offensively and a dumpster fire closer.

.-.
0-138 teams with 11 now 12 game losing streaks that have made the playoffs. When does the fire sale start. Where Cohen eats salary just to dump some of these players……they are going nowhere and no team is going to pick up these ridiculous contracts…..it may be decades before they recover. The Jets and Mets are the fans frets…..

The last 10 months have been absolute torture as a Mets and Jets fan. I feel like a battered spouse.

Well, Frankie quadrupled his ribbies last night. Problem is,
that was it. Benge hit a Homer game 1, that was it. He should be playing Twi Met in Waterbury. Poor McLean, he deserves better. Maybe let him hit.

I'm going to try and be positive.

Holmes gives us gutty innings every game. I have no complaints about Peralta, Nolan and Holmes.
Alvy is the one guy that consistently shows some spark and heart and he might be maturing at the plate as a hitter.
We need a guy like Weaver and his attitude. I wouldn't mind seeing him get the closer nod right now.

I'll enjoy that and worry about how long Lindor's out or why Soto didn't speak to a teammate the entire time he was on the DL tomorrow.

Matinee from Hell yesterday as Weaver gives up a two run bomb in the 8th. Then the streak of o-fers after trailing after 8 continues as Mauricio goes golfing on a full count with Alvy on 2nd and two outs in the 9th. It is so disheartening. They are so bad. Then they have to get on a plane to Cali for tonight.

.-.
I guess we know now why Yankee fans were not sad about losing Soto Williams and Weaver

I was a little sad about Soto. He seemed like a great fit in the boogie down Bronx. I’m sure he’s feeling some sort of way right now but as they say ‘money can’t buy happiness but you can drive a really nice car looking for it’.

Weaver was lights out as the closer until he got hurt and was never quite the same so some disappointment but not a lot.

Williams I would have happily driven up from SE PA and packed his bags for him by mid-season last year.

Seems like Soto is toxic to clubhouse. He gets his and that’s all
