Time to put 2025 behind us and discuss a new fresh topic…like…who will be the Jet QB!?!?!?

The latest…Derek Carr?

So…it feels. like this is more than just rumor. On his podcast Carr talked about being friends with Aaron Glenn..they are golf buddies. He also has said one of his best coaches was Bill Musgrave on the Raiders. Guess who the new Jets QB coach is? Musgrave seemed to be an odd hire…unless it was for this reason. Kinda reminds me of the Jets hiring Hackett before getting Rodgers.

First…I was surprised to see that Carr was only 34. I have stated in the past that I thought Carr was the better choice over Rodgers. Second…they would have to trade for him. I am not sure I would give up much for a retired player. Third…is he healthy. He retired for a reason…does he really want to play?

This all kinda makes sense…Reich must have unretired with some sort of vision for who would be QB. Musgrave hire makes more sense if this happens.

I like this idea better than Cousins….but not as good as Brissett or Willis..

I was not a big Carr fan….back when it was him vs Rodgers. For one year and maybe as an experienced backup for a couple years after that, I could sell myself on it.

My concern is health. He got injured a LOT the last few years before retiring. Not sure if the time off helps that totally but we better have someone more capable than Brady Cook behind him if we plan on him next year.

The other QB I have seen mentioned is Tanner McKee. I didn’t know much about him, but he fits the Reich preference for a big QB. He played at Stanford…and if you look at his stats in college and limited time in the NFL, they look pretty good.

Carr, McKee and a draft pick would not be a bad QB room.

I just don’t see Murray being a fit in NY. AG has been very public that he doesn’t like celebrity QBs. AG is intense…and expects his players to have passion. He is a Parcells disciple. Reich likes big qbs who are pocket passers.

Kyler Murray is not a good fit with AG and Reich.

The article also discusses McKee being traded. That’s the guy I would rather have.

Also add in that Kyler Murray stinks. He's had 1 WR with 1,000 yds receiving in his career and that was Deandre Hopkins in 2020. He's got a pouty attitude and questionable work ethic. I have no idea why they're even flirting with the idea.

This smells like something Woody Johnson would do. He likes big names.

I still don’t think it happens…he isn’t an AG kind of player.

.-.

Not sure how I feel about this. I really thought Johnson was still recovering from his injury last year and he would break out this year. It seemed like Johnson and McDonald were the starting DEs this year and they would probably add a rookie to the group. Now it feels like they have to add a rookie DE…probably plus a FA DE.

I will say they are solid at DT now with Barnes, Briggs and Sweat. And Sweat is younger than Johnson and under contract longer. Interesting that it’s Saleh who traded for Johnson.

How many former number one picks can they trade away?

Here's the reason Jets fans. This was a smart move.

As I said…mixed feelings. I think they could have drafted Reese and kept Johnson and McDonald. Especially since Reese is more of a hybrid. But now they will probably draft a more traditional DE.

I do think it’s a long term play. Johnson entering last year of deal…Sweat is under contract I think for two years. This solidifies the interior…lets them draft a DE with a clear path to starting.

My fear is that I think Johnson was ready for a break out year this year. I think he struggled in 2025 because he was still recovering from his injury…plus the defense as a whole was awful including scheme. And…johnson was a leader in the clubhouse.

This may come back to haunt the Jets…but I get the logic.

That last sentence would be embarrassing to anyone but a Jets fan... haha

Sad but true. When you just went through a season of Fields, Taylor and Brady whatshisface….Carr, McKee and a draft pick sound good!

It just feels like SImpson is as risky as Drew Allar or Nussmeier…who are most likely going in round 2 or 3.
Exactly. I think he goes before them, but maybe not much before. Late 1st perhaps because there are QB needy teams (Steelers) there.
