The Official 2025 New York Yankees Thread

This is a low-risk, high-reward move. I like it. LHP who throws in the upper 90s with good secondary stuff and has started to figure it out the last two years, although injuries are a thing. Only 26. We gave up some minor leaguers who are decent, but let's be honest, the Yankees haven't given a chance to OF prospects with much, much higher pedigrees. Might as well move them as opposed to just letting them rot or losing them in Rule 5 or free agency.

I’m OK with the deal too. Four prospects sounds like a lot, but two of the guys are unranked and the other two have a highest rank of eight and 13 amongst ranked pro prospects in the system.

Weathers has been very good when he’s been healthy, so as long as his health is in check, he could be a pretty decent controllable piece.

You gotta give up something. Jasso is 23 and was okay in AA, Lewis is almost 23 and was okay in A ball, Jones is almost 24 and was okay in AA, and Matheus is only 21 and just completed A ball. Point being, these are not "big" prospects, and with the way the Yanks (don't) use their prospects, there was very little chance these guys would've ever contributed.

.-.
"Word" is that, after acquiring Luis Robert, the Mets would still be interested in Bellinger, but in a short-term deal. I'd think that sorta removes them from the game.

It's just insane to me that so much of the Yankees' potential success this year hinges on a guy who is a borderline all-star and will be vastly overpaid for far too long. The roster construction of this team has been so poor.

Imagine that LeMachine is making $15mil and Hicks $1mil this season to not play.

I’m honestly ready for Spencer Jones time. He’s 24, batted .274 with 35 dingers last year in Double and Triple A. Strikes out a lot so he’ll fit right in on the big league club. He doesn’t have anything else to prove in the minors. It’s sink or swim time.

Holy crap…are they really still paying Hicks? Is that Cashman’s worst deal?

I honestly thought the Hicks deal was a steal when it was done. Hicks first year of the contract was 248/27/79 with 90 walks and 90 runs scored. He even got MVP votes. Then.... it did not go well.

Signed Bellinger... 5/162.5

What a colossal overpay.
I don't think it's that bad of an overpay.

Glad it's done. Stanton's contract expires in two seasons, so if Bellinger opts in, then he and Rice and battle between 1B and Designated Hitter.

If the Yanks are fortunate they'll get two years out of the five where Bellinger plays to the level of hos contract.

I'm thrilled about Cody signing but all the Yankees have to do now is get 2 quality starting pitchers, 2 quality relievers, a good catcher, a SS, and a quality 3B!
I've been a Yankee fan since 1958 and I'm royally pi--ed at this off season!
Then MAYBE they'll make the playoffs!
Toronto, the Red Sox, and Baltimore, have improved tremendously, only the Rays haven't improved!
If the Yanks play really good they should finish 4th with their current roster!
Remember their 3 best pitchers won't be back till May and June if they're lucky!
Hal owes Yankee fans a World Series Championship, which he'll never deliver on! He owes Judge and Cole that much!

I think it’s a fine deal. He’s a five tool guy and can help protect Judge. He’s young enough to contribute on the back end. Hes built to hit in Yankee Stadium.

The only downfall is staying on the field which he’s been okay recently. You needed to do this.

Goldschmidt is back on a one-year deal.

An excellent .981 OPS against LHP last season, so he'll get 1B ABs against southpaws.

Such a weird offseason, aside from the Ryan Weathers trade there's a chance that every guy on the opening day lineup is running it back from last year.
