Not my words, article from Dave Borges.

"They've got to be the Hawk, Andre, 'Dama 'Big Three' that we had that were productive, they led, they controlled the locker room," Hurley said following the Huskies' first official practice of the season on Tuesday. "I think we do have a great locker room again this year."

The RuffRuff Alternate Access™:
Alex Karaban, Solo Ball, Tarris Reed Jr. are UConn's newest Big 3. Can they meet the Husky 'standard'?

I’ve been trying to tamper my own expectations and be less biased since we underperformed expectations last year. But I’m having a really hard time minimizing the impact that I expect these three to have

Solo was a BE 2nd teamer while spending 75% of the season as exclusively a shooter. Why can’t he compete for 1st team with a stronger overall offensive game?

AK was a BE 2nd teamer after having the most inefficient year of his career. With the roster next year, he should be able to go back to his old role of shooter/glue guy/connector, but with added defensive and rebounding skills

Tarris is the biggest unknown, but that’s because of fouls and not because of ability. He had 8 double doubles last year coming off the bench. He can be UNSTOPPABLE in the post if we design a gameplan that feeds him the ball

I’m so excited.

“They lead and controlled the locker room”. Maybe that wasn’t Tristen’s role.

Fair--I missed that part. Tristen was definitely more of a "lead by example" type. Plus it's pretty hard to be a locker room leader when you just arrived on campus a few months ago.

What about 2024? I’m guessing Cam? Maybe Clingan? Newton was still leading by example. Castle was a frosh. Alex wasn’t vocal as a junior so wouldn’t have been as a soph either.

It's an interesting sentiment because we don't win a chip without Tristen that year. I suspect Demary will be better than some of the "big 3" as well. I guess he's just referring to returning upperclassmen leadership.
Tristen was a transfer though whereas Hawkins, Andre, and Adama were already in Hurley's system.

i like advertising a Big 3 while Demary and Mullins go off. Basically you have 3 major role players with SGs and wings making easy work and non-advertised ‘forgot about’ guys getting easy buckets (15-25 mpg / 8-12 ppg).
