NCAA sets new limits on bowl ties per conference

The new tie-ins will start in 2020 through 2025.
  • AAC: 7
  • ACC: 11
  • Big 12: 7
  • Big Ten: 9
  • C-USA: 7
  • MAC: 6
  • Mountain West: 6
  • Pac-12: 8
  • SEC: 11
  • Sun Belt: 5
  • Independents: 0
  • Army: 1
  • BYU: 1
This doesn’t mean the number of teams that can go to bowls, but rather the number of predetermined slots in bowls each conference will have.

Also apparently Notre Dame is ineligible? The other independents (Army/BYU) are called out explicitly.

If ND is not eligible for a bowl due to FB independence, stuff's about to get weird in the conference realignment world. Could be good for us; won't be, though...

They might count them as an ACC team??

Notre Dame is eligible for any ACC bowl as long as they are within one game of the team eligible for the slot...except for the Orange Bowl.

Absurd. How about 6 per league? What they did wasn't limits, it was apportioning.

So there will always be a predetermined spot for Army?
Yes. It is part of the psuedoPatriotism running rampant these days. Imagine if Army were left out? The twittershere would explode.

To me this speaks to the mediocrity that has overtaken the sport. The 11th best team in the ACC is seriously deserving of a guaranteed bowl slot? The 7th best B12 ? Lol

I do not believe mediocrity has overtaken the sport. It has overtaken the bowl games. If you go 6-6 you get to go to a bowl game. Potentially losing money as part of the process. In reality some teams will get to a bowl game with a 5-7 record. Why should any team with a losing record be rewarded with a bowl game? One reason and one reason only, ESPN needs content and college football is good content for them. I guess some of that money trickles back to the schools.

I agree with you. Teams ought to at least win more than they lose to go to bowls. That and the 4 team playoff ultimately will ruin college football.

Yep...football regular season is in the bag...media needs football gamed for folks to watch...even if it is only 225,000 watching.
