. . . is difficult to adequately assess and then define using available superlatives.

There are stats, like 8 NC's in 8 NC games, biggest margin of victory, etc., etc.

Somehow, numbers don't quite seem to capture the depth, height or scope of the event.

So let me try to "get it" in Boneyard terms. I submit:

"The UConn victory was so dominant that it reduced TonyC [see "Predictions" post] to the status of a gloomy pessimist."

This struck a chord with me. A fellow UConn fan in this small town, an elderly woman, is prone to anxiety over upcoming big games. She looks to me to calm her down, as I often tell her confidently that UConn is going to win by this or that margin. I confidently consoled her with a prediction that UConn would beat Notre Dame by 12 points, and Louisville by 25. In retrospect I caused her needless concern with my pessimistic prognosis.

And for a statistical measurement of UConn's dominance, check out the UPS Team Performance Index (ignore what the link's wording suggests; the actual and more representative title of the article is "UConn's title-game rout gives snapshot into UPS Index offensive domination") ...

Nice find.

Interesting:
They also ranked third in defense, third in rebounding and first in ball-handling,

Interesting considering many (including me) considered it our Achilles heel this year.

The who would have been President, but for a 10K bribe. Let's give an award to whomever bribed him.
Okay, I confess to being Mr. Deep Pockets back then when I tried to bribe him to issue a slightly premature decree declaring the second week in April as "Pay Homage to the Husky Women Week." What kind of award do I get?

For some here let us emphasize that alittle more.

You can rearrange the letters in Spirow Agnew to spell "grow a penis". True story.

That doesn't mean it wasn't our Achilles heel. It was probably a combination of assists and turnovers. We are very good at assists, only so-so at turnovers.

I never bought into we are bad handlers. Flashy, no, solid ball handlers yes. I doubt Geno or the staff tolerate high risk low reward ball handling. Many of our TOs took the form of ill timed or badly executed passes and brain farts more than ball handling which, generally, refers to dribbling control of the ball.

Here's the link to the index. I referred to this a couple times in the past, particularly in claiming that in close games with Notre Dame we could expect to lose because of the miscue index, but we could also win big because of the offensive and defensive efficiencies. Ball handling incorporates assists and steals, which we were very good at. However, we do not do as well in the overall miscue category, which measures things like unforced turnovers and fouls. The last I looked at the index we were actually first in both offensive and defensive efficiency. One could attribute Hampton's defensive efficiency to their competition, but I'm surprised Stanford edged us out in that category as well.

Well that would explain how our Ball Handling is so high. Our miscues where in the Miscues column. Be interesting to see how they measure or what they mean by "effective" FG percentages.

Be interesting to see how they measure or what they mean by "effective" FG percentages.

Effective FG takes into account the differing values of 2 point and 3 point shots. If you shoot 50% on 2 point shots, then you're making an average of one point per shot. If you shoot 33% on 3 point shots, that also is worth an average of one point per shot.

UConn shot 37.8% from 3 for the season, which is effectively the same as shooting 56.8% with 2 point shots. KML's 49.2% is equivalent to 73.8%. Very potent.

edit: the actual formula is (field goals made + 0.5* 3-point field goals) / field goals attempted

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks.

Some of the turnovers in the Final Four were passes over the top of defenders into Breanna just off her fingertips, as she gets stronger those will be assists on made baskets. As the games wore on she was making the catches, and the baskets.

I believe Rockefeller was the temporary VP Gerry Ford replaced.

What I DO remember - for certain - the country went without a VP for several months - leading me to conclude, we could endure the loss of a politician (at the highest level) much more than the loss of our garbage man. It's all about priorities.

Wasn't that Ford? Replaced Agnew and then Nixon??

Rockefeller was Ford's VP.

I agree with losing the garbage man. Much more significant. That's why I wonder why people complain about Presidents taking vacation. The more they are away from DC, the less damage they can do. (same for Congress)
