The BE looking to expand to 12 is a good story, and the intrigue of DeFillipo's comments has kept everybody's blood pressure up. However, Missouri remains the deciding factor for multiple teams and conferences. The fact that we are into week 2 of the Missouri matter is just crazy given the speed at which most of the re-alignment has occurred.

Question 1 - Has Missouri's blantant desire to be in the B1G over the SEC pissed off the SEC enough to have them look elsewhere? The SEC doesn't want to be sloppy seconds for any team. If Missouri decides not to go or more likely the SEC gets sick of messing with them, does the SEC take the easy and direct method and just grab WVU, or do they take the bumpier road and try to get an ACC team or two, or three.

Obviously, UConn would benefit greatly by the SEC going after the ACC. There will be a lot of pressure on the SEC to go after the top of the ACC.

Question 2 - What does the B-12 do regardless of of whether Missouri stays or goes? a) Do they stay at 10 should Missouri stay? b) If Missouri decides to stay they are at 9 with TCU, so they have to go to 10. Is it BYU or Louisville? c) Do they go to 12 or 14 with 2 or 3 BE teams and others. d) Do they go to 16 an bring along essentially all of the BE leftovers?

There is a tremendous amount of activity to play out over the next few weeks, months or even a year. That is why I really don't want the BE to start their invitation process until all the other chips have fallen.

Isn't the Big 12 at 10 if Missouri stays? Out Nebraska, Colorado, A&M. In TCU?

The key may no longer be Mizzou, now it may be WVU:

If any non #ACC team gets into the #SEC it is looking like it will be #WVU. Heard from 2 sources #Mizzou lost at least 1 vote this weekend.

the sec would add so much value by adding FSU and VaTech. if florida accepted this and decided to change its stance and allow FSU into the SEC, I would love to hear the reaction from the bcu people who always use the sorry line "but florida does it why cant we do it"

.-.
The twitter/blogosphere rumor yesterday was FSU, WVU, and Mizzou would be teams 14-16 in the SEC. So that's about as solid of information as one can get.

Agree. However, as far as we know, they made overtures to Mizzou before addressing any ACC teams, so who knows for sure? Perhaps they're dealing with WVU right now as a contingency plan to FSU/Clemson/NCSU/UMD or whichever other ACC teams have been bandied about.

If the Big East collapses I hope WVU gets in the SEC somehow, they've earned it. If not there, I'd love for WVU, Ville, RU, and UConn to end up in the ACC together. That basketball conference would be insane, and the football would still be decent.

Sorry but Tech isn't going anywhere...they worked far too long to get into the ACC. They and their fan base are a perfect fit but they ain't going anywhere. Besides, they get to beat up on the ACC each and every year.

If the SEC takes 3 ACC schools, say Florida State, Clemson and Virginia Tech, that leaves 11 ACC schools. Does the ACC add back 1, 3 or 5? If 5 Big East schools, who gets left out?

50/50 FSU
40/60 Clemson
10/90 Virginia Tech

Gentlemen handshakes between Florida and South Carolina to keep in state rivals out. Tech is an ACC team...will not leave. Source sits in his sky box for each game.

Surprised to learn that Virginia Tech would turn down a chance to play in the SEC but staying in the ACC makes sense from a travel perspective.

VT has a history of thriving on competition that isn't in the top 10. VT made its name against BE teams not named Miami. But its record against top SEC caliber teams is abysmal. VT also broke through in the BE after a poor stretch for Miami in the late 1990s.

This is why VT may elect to forgo the extra $10 million by keeping their team relevant and folks packing Blacksburg.

Could be VT doesnt want to get lost in the shuffle of the SEC.

I can't say I really blame them. From a geographic and competitive standpoint, why would they want to leave?

I would love to see the SEC raid the ACC of FSU, Clemson and take Mizzou as well.

It's far from over. May take a few years. But UConn will be stagnant in those years - basketball will be basketball. Football will be football. It's not like BE football could get much worse than it is now. Pitt destroys ranked USF. Then they lose to Rutgers who is pretty bad. Tell me about it - the story of BE football.

UConn will end up where it's right for them. At the worst, they go independent in football and remain in a very strong basketball conference, which is our main sport by far.

But who knows what's going to happen in the future. It clearly appears the NCAA won't exist in the next 5 years...

Can someone answer me why Florida would be against FSU to the SEC? They play each other annually and their recruiting is on par with each other. Florida really does not have much to lose by the SEC adding FSU. If anything they will get one easier OOC game annually.

The new leaked Missouri internal document shows that they can make $12M more per school in the SEC vs. the B12. Basically, each SEC schools could be making over $30M per year in TV money. If SEC is able to do that, do you honestly think most ACC schools won't jump at an offer? I would say FSU, VTECH, NCST and Clemson are all targets.

Additionally, there is a rumor that FSU's exit fee is $6M if they go to the SEC. ACC wanted $30M+ exit fee initially, Maryland and FSU got it down to $20M per year. If SEC is able to offer $30M+ per year, anyone honestly think FSU won't jump? That $20M exit fee is peanuts in the long run.

ACC is still locked into their $13M per year TV deal. At best, ESPN might give each team $1M to $2M raise on the renegotiation. There is no way they can hold on to schools if SEC comes calling.

It's that when UF competes for recruits against FSU, they can say, come to UF and you play in the SEC. You'll be playing in the biggest games, in the biggest bowls, and the national titles. Go to FSU, and you'll be in the ACC, playing in the Tire Bowl, on ESPN2, and not in the championship games. Simple as that.

Considering FSU is already getting top recruiting classes according to the rankings, does it really matter what conference they are in? It is all about maximizing the $$$$$ at this point. There aren't too many programs like FSU laying around in the SEC footprint.

Was about to make a similar reply. Think UF really would not be dead-set against FSU. I think there are other dynamics in play with SC and Clemson, as neither is a traditional top 10 school, and Clemson is not really a massive TV draw.

Watch the home winning percentage of Dook go lower and lower and lower.....

Can't buy the FSU rumors.

Like Pitt, FSU seems to be grasping for excuses for their recent shortcomings. They played for the National Championship 5 times in 8 years from 1993-2001 winning twice and won the ACC 3 times in the next 4 years (2002-2005). Then the BC curse and Virginia Tech.

Then again, FSU wants to escape the curse of Flipper and stench of failure at BC. Maybe they'll consider a BE bid.
