I have no doubt that sometime in the future UConn will end up in the ACC. However, by then so much damage will have been done to the Huskies athletic brand that it won't add nearly the value to the league that it would have if the ACC had treated UConn as a valuable commodity rather than something they can pick up when it depreciates to flea market status in the future.
If I'm Herbst I'm really pissed off. I have no doubt that ACC members told her to play it cool because UConn was at the top of the list. Otherwise her quiet approach doesn't make much sense. I would hit the bastards where it hurts. In business I've known firms to set up recruiting dates at local hotels to hit on a competitor's best personnel. Well, UConn is recruiting 200 new tenure track faculty. I would go hard after the best and brightest young minds at some of the ACC schools. That's something that the presidents of universities notice quickly.
