Not to me. But to a lot of people on this board.

BTW, whoever made the decision, coming into this game, playing a QB that had been knocked out of two games this year, and decided the best way to win was to rush three guys and let him get comfortable in the pocket -- well, whoever decided that is an idiot.

Not that that dopey defensive game plan decided the game. We were outmanned, outplayed and out coached.

But...not pressuring a QB who had been hurt and had low confidence coming into the game, well.,,not really a brilliant defensive game plan.

Anyhow, how has this team improved over Pasqualoni? -Seriously?
 
Improvement? Still can't pass, can't catch, can't run, defense was terrible, still playing old fashion "bend don't break" defense, can't return kickoffs, can't return punts . . . So where again is the improvement?

Diaco won 2 games last year. He has won 3 this year.
 
I'm with you on this one Pal. Not only was it a scheme failure not to pressure the QB, but we played way too soft in the defensive backfield. So many open receivers for Cincy. Our D coordinator has been a liability for us. So has our OC. Who's left?

I'm a half glass full kinda guy. We lost to Cincy at home 41-0 last year. This year, we only lost 37-13 on the road. Give it 3 more years and we'll get there!!! :)
 
Just need a better OLine and then everything else will be better.....not perfect but much better. The OLine however appears absent from the long range radar. That has to change with a flurry of OLine recruting news this December/January. We have to look at transfers and JC kids too for the Oline. Wake me when we have exciting OLine recruiting news. With have the QB of the future in Rose.
 
Defensive game plan for this game was asssss. Offensive game plan was fine.
 
Fully agree. Glad to see this was sarcastic. Who doesn't know Kiel? He had all day long all night long. Painful to watch. If you find a way to pressure him, you risk what...the big play? Oh...wait...
 
You guys are pathetic. I never post here cause your a miserable bunch. But remember what we're dealing with. Give it another year before you jump off a cliff. This team is all freshman and sophomores. What the hell did you think was gonna happen today?

I'm not sure how this is so lost on people - the offensive line stinks. It prevents us from being successful on offense, and in turn, hurts the defense (TOP, field position, etc.). Everyone can call for "exciting" and "dynamic" offenses all they want, but it starts up front and we don't have the players right now to be successful on O. It's not playcalling, it's not the schemes, it's the line play.

Freaking wicked Whiner

You can clearly see they've improved. But given the nature of College Football, this is a several year process. Tuberville & even Taggert have far more levels of Depth.

Some think every change is like Tom at Houston. The answer is Coach Levine left Hermann far more talent than Pasqualoni. And easier to grab JCs there.

I know you're disappointed. The whining is not masculine-like.
 
A fact for those who do not remember such things:

UConn football has NEVER beaten the Bearcats in Cincinnati. Never. As in ever. For whatever reason they've always had our number.

Move on and lets see if we can't figure out a way to sneak out a W against ECU (presumably in our alternate uniforms). Beat ECU and take down Tulane and you're looking at a W over either Temple or Houston for bowl eligibility. Not the best of odds but not totally inconceivable either.

The other thing is people before the season were stating they would be happy with 4-5 wins. Well it would appear we are headed in that direction. Our goals for the season were inflated by the 2-0 start against two absolutely terrible teams. The biggest disappointment in not making the postseason is not getting the 15 extra practices that come along with it. Thats why even making the freakin New Mexico Bowl is huge for the program- it allows us to practice together 15 more times. With a young team, this would be crucial for our development- especially in the Oline

My gut says you''ve found a false rationale to explain reality. As much as it pains me I now believe if we put Diaco with Houston and Herman with us we would not see the same result that both teams have displayed. You think Diaco has them at 6-0? You think Herman has us (after two years) where we are today? I don't. Sad to say but true.

This. We spend so much time talking about love and process that we forget it's about results. Narducci has Pitt trending in the right direction too. I didn't get to watch the game at all but followed game tracker throughout the second half. It felt eerily similar to what we've seen over the past five years.

The team wasn't at their best today but even adding up the missed tackles and dropped passes the scheme we opened up with on D was a loser from the first whistle. If it were up to me I'd scrap this whole passive soft sponge defense nonsense and let our guys play. We have athletes and they deserve a fighting chance to either impose themselves or get beaten by better athletes. Sitting back and letting opposing QB's and receivers shred us is just sickening. I'm over it 100%. We got humiliated and looked soft in the process and our guys are not soft players. Let them play some aggressive football.

We could possibly beat ECU and then Tulane at this point. I'm just losing confidence in this defensive setup ever working for us against a decent offense. So where are we really headed?

We have heard the "multi-year" process talk before - ala - PPGDL. It is true. But, one needs to be able to determine if the crew in charge will come through the other side with a winning program. It is not clear to me in year 2 that more time means success, nor is it clear it doesn't. What can be said is Diaco has proven himself to be quite pedestrian at best. His schemes are less than impressive on the D side the ball, and is Offense remains anemic. His game management is poor. His ability to coach up players remains unclear, which means it is likely average . His recruiting impact is an open question. The only clearly superior capability is building a healthy team culture. His midterm grade is a C-, meaning he is barely passing at this point.
 
Has the team improved? Yes.
Was the defensive game plan crappy? Yes.

Those two things are not mutually exclusive. I really wish that we could find a defensive coordinator that is willing to adapt the gameplan to the opponent's strengths. I felt the same way about Don Brown; it was awesome to blitz a crap-ton, until you let up 30+ points to a team like Western Michigan. I sometimes wonder if it's too much to ask for a coach who adapts to the opponent...

Last year when we missed a FG that caused Diaco celebrate madly it was 31-0, this year when we missed a FG that caused Diaco to celebrate madly it was 27-13. That is a 14 point improvement to me...
