The following players are either freshmen or sophomores:

Tyraiq Beals
Hergy Mayala
Daniel Oak
Ron Johnson
Vontae Diggs
Jamar Summers
Ryan Crozier (who I assume will get another year with a medical redshirt)
Luke Carrezola
Trey Rutherford
Alec Bloom
Tommy Myers
Cole Ornsby
Junior Joseph
Folorunso Fatukasi
Thomas Lucas
Brendan Vechery
Cameron Stapleton
Bryant Shirreffs
Arkeel Newsome

Just thinking about Newsome's potential for the next few years in a Husky uniform, and I am hoping some of these players develop over the next few years and I'm thinking 2017 could be a really special year for us.

(Sorry for the optimism, I know it's not standard BY fare, but just like reveling in a few good feelings when they do come for our team.)

I am one of the optimistic posters like yourself. Hard to argue in the negative here. How could the future not be bright. A lot of young contributors on this team. They're growing and learning week to week. As crazy as people think Bob sounds, I really liked his Greek mythology reference during the media week. Football is a tough and rugged game. It is easy to get beat down and defeated. Bob maintains the positive mindset of personal and team growth through the highs and lows. As a young team this is big as the younger players become upper classmen and can then lead by example for every new freshman class that arrives each summer/fall.

Don't forget about EJ Levenberry as well, transfer from FSU.

I totally agree. These youngsters are doing well and should only get better.

Keep hoping for 6 wins this year. It would be awesome!!!!!!!!!

I for one am hoping they can get it done. After last nights win, a win against Tulane is looking promising and hopefully they can keep the momentum going against one of the last two in Temple and Houston. Getting to 6 wins this season would be HUGE for this program heading into 2016.

Arkeel has 2 years left. I won't be surprised if he leaves early for the NFL.

I would. While he has had a nice season thus far in his sophomore campaign, he hasn't had eye popping numbers that rank among college footballs best at the highest level of competition.

NFL scouts have potential in mind. Just like other leagues. If he stays 4 years, great for everyone.

He is 61st in the country in rushing. Todman was 4th when he left early. I think we are safe. It isn't BB where they draft on potential.

I like newsome but it seems he lacks breakaway speed. Good acceleration and vision though. Also think he's a really good college back but a marginal NFL prospect.

Even on potential I just don't see the NFL is his future. He is a possible CFL or Arena guy. Him leaving early would be like when Brockington left early.

Newsome's 40 yard dash speed as a high school senior is ridiculous.

I believe BD said AK is just as fast in pads as he is without so he is plenty fast. I hope he gets better blocking and another back to be a threat which will up his effectiveness.

Then I want to know how fast the guy was that caught him.
The dude who caught him wasn't carrying a ball. lol

Don't forget Darren Sproles. Most of us here are taller than him.

Come on now. Forget leaving early, Arkeel is having a nice soph year but he would be fortunate to make a practice squad after 4 years as a Husky. It's nothing personal, just a different level.

Did he get laser timed at a camp? Because hand times are BS. I was hand timed at 5.0 and lasered at 5.4. Big difference.

This season isn't over yet, gotta beat Tulane then go from there. The more close games the better it will be for next year.

First of all, I don't think Newsome is even thinking about the NFL. At his size, he has to prove he can play at this level let alone the NFL. He's a sophomore, who continues to improve every week. I'm sure Newsome, like any other kid, has aspirations of playing on Sunday's, but I'm going to bet his focus is on Tulane right now. Second, he ran a 4.48 in high school. That's plenty fast enough. The average 40-time of an NFL running back is 4.5-4.6. Another thing to keep in mind is that DBs and WRs are usually the fastest players on the field. So, the fact that two DBs were on his tail does not surprise me. As HCBD has pointed out numerous times, Newsome has a rare ability to accelerate through contact. His 40-time doesn't tell the whole story. I don't care what his 40-time is, he's productive. He averages over 5.0 yards per carry behind a below average offensive line. He can catch the ball out of the backfield. He's become our best pass blocking RB, at 5'7 and he has learned to protect the football. What he does on (and off the field, i.e., the weight room) over the next two seasons will determine his NFL future. Smaller RBs have had great success in the NFL.

So nice to hear positive feedback and optimism. It's certainly been to long.

Yeah there is no way he leaves early (or should). Arkeel has been phenomenal for us and will be an NFL player one day if he stays healthy. He could very easily translate into performing the same type of role as Dion Lewis is doing for the Pats in a few years.
