Maybe I'm a sadist or whatever, but I'm always curious how our transfers and near recruits are doing. So I thought, maybe just for myself, I'd put them all in one place. I'm sure I'm forgetting some...

Transfers

Ahmad Nowell

Through 4 games, he's getting 13/mpg and averaging 5.5. Shooting it very poorly.

Aidan Mahaney

Averaging 15 and 4 in 33mpg through four games. Shooting it extremely well.

Isaiah Abraham

Averaging 4 and 3 in 16mpg as a starter for GTown. Thought he'd have more of an impact tbh.

Yousouff Singare

Averaging 3 and 2 in 10mpg.

Apostolos Roumoglou

Averaging 2/gm in 14mpg. Legit thought he'd go to Richmond and be a really good player. Oops.

Almosts

Darius Adams

Averaging 11/gm in 27mpg as the starting 2G for Maryland. Coming off his best game with 16 and 7 against Marquette. He's shooting it very poorly, but is getting to the line six times a game.

Acaden Lewis

Averaging 12 and 5 for Nova.

Meleek Thomas

Averaging 18-7-5 for Arkansas. Not shooting it well, but he's a legit OAD.

Niko Bundalo

Has played five minutes in three games and has yet to score. Super weird recruitment, and he barely plays.

Nowell only played 2 minutes against NC State yesterday. A freshman has the PG role there (Nyk Lewis) and when they shortened their rotation in the second half, he didn’t play. Went through the VCU gameday thread to see if maybe he was injured and he wasn’t even a topic of conversation.

Yep, thought he'd have a big role and put up #'s and then bounce back to a high D1.

So, in other words, we don't miss any of them.

Yup... Thought Nowell and Abraham would show out more on the transfer side. Remains to be seen with Adams. He hasn't shot it well, but he's been a useful player for MD, and I bet he ends up being quite good. Still didn't have an immediate spot here, though.

I watched the whole VCU/NC State game yesterday and was shocked at how little Nowell played, searched twitter and google news afterwards and didn't see any reporting of an injury. Only played 2 first half minutes and right away dribbled himself into a trap near half court that resulted in a jump ball(retained possession) but other than that didn't really do anything that would signal he wasn't gonna get any more minutes, and Nyk Lewis didn't play all that well himself.

You can probably count the number of players who've transferred out of here and been someone we regret leaving on one hand.

I'll take Malachi Smith over Nowell 8 days a week.

Thanks for posting this. I enjoy following our transfers out and am rooting for all of them to find success. I’m especially happy to see it seems like Mahaney picked up where he left off in that level/region.

It's a worthy question... Have we had anyone portal out that ended up being a player elsewhere?

.-.
@husky429 was right about him.

For sure... His recruitment might be the strangest one I can remember. Even more than the sideshow of Kasongo or some of the other odd KO recruits, bc Bundalo was a McD AA caliber player, and yet it seemed like nobody wanted him. And now he doesn't even play where he landed. He was the highest-rated recruit in Ole Miss history.

There have been guys who put up pretty good numbers at lower-level schools (Diggins at UMass comes to mind immediately, others are out there, I'm sure), but I can't think of anyone who's been even a rotation piece at the power conference level. However, I have a feeling Abraham will buck that trend.

Don't really want to count Oriakhi and Roscoe since that was an entirely different landscape and had some weird circumstances. In the era of the portal, I can't think of anyone.

Without and data to back it up, Alex Oriakhi and Roscoe Smith come to mind.

Ok, good call. Too lazy to look it up, but I think Roscoe averaged a double/double at UNLV and AO had a pretty good year at Mizz. Thinking back, I think Carlton had a good year at Houston, and Enoch was at least useful at Louisville. Most of our KO-era defections all probably did better away from the mess that was here.

Oriakhi ended up getting drafted in the second round but apparently never played in a true NBA game. But, as mentioned above, he and Roscoe Smith both left under weird circumstances - UConn being banned from postseason play in the upcoming season at their time of transfer.

Scott Hazelton made all A-10 team his senior year at URI.
I think Doug Wrenn did reasonably well at Washington before wearing out his welcome there.

Doug Wrenn is one of my favorite UConn players ever, even though he did relatively little good while here. I randomly found a news report on him last year where he completely turned his life around after some legal issues, and I think he was pursuing his doctorate in Sociology.

Good call on Carlton. Averaged 11.6 ppg (63%), 6.2 rpg, and 1.2 bpg.

What a weird trajectory he had. Had a great soph year and an OK junior year, and then he averaged 11 mpg as a senior.

Well, Sanogo altered that trajectory quite a bit...

Jalen Gaffney had a good run at FAU. Rob Garrison averaged 10 ppg at Niagara. I think Isaiah Abraham will be ok over the years at Georgetown. He’s really just getting college playing time. Some kids aren’t instant. Alterique Gilbert averaged 10.9 at Wichita State and played overseas for a while.

You're right..... Roscoe Smith - 29 mpg, 11.1 pts, 10.9 rb

Oriakhi - 26 mpg, 11.2 pts, 8.4 rb, 1.6 bl

Enoch - 2 years at Lville - 20 mpg, 9.5 pts, 5.4 rb
