LSU has been in the SEC way longer than South Carolina. Put USC in the ACC where they actually once were members.
There's still plenty of really bad blood between supporters of the two Carolina flagship state schools because of the rancor that occurred back in the 1960's over academic requirements in BB recruiting. The split over the issue is what caused USC to exit the ACC. There are still quite a few folks alive who remember that animosity well, and it has carried over for generations. You will notice that a lot of South Carolina's athletic teams wear only the word 'Carolina' on their jerseys. That's no accident. As far as they're concerned, USC is the one and only Carolina. Given a choice between only two alternatives, I think USC would choose to go independent rather than ever joining the ACC again.
