Mrs. James Naismith prepares to shoot as her hubby holds the peach basket.

Fortunately she was in a good mood. Had she attempted a two handed monster flush, he might have been seriously injured.

Odd fact. One of the reason tiny high schools in Colorado dominated basketball in the early 20th century was that Naismith moved to Colorado a year or so after inventing the game.

Women's basketball games actually first played in 1892 in classes at Smith College in Northampton, Ma. there were 9 players on each team. Sendra Berenson, a gymnastics instructor, introduced the game to the Smithies. The first recognized game was played at Smith in 1893, between the freshman and sophomore classes. The first intercollegiate game was played in 1896 between Stanford and Cal. Berenson is in the Hall of Fame.
