This is a 2016 movie about the 1952 sinking of the SS Pendleton off the coast of Cape Cod. It stars Chris Pine, Casey Afleck, Ben Foster and Eric Bana. The movie has some issues. Chris Pine who is a serviceable actor actually kind of sucks in this film. He is supposed to be a by-the-book coast guard officer, but comes off as a cross between Forest Gump and furniture. I have no idea what the point of the fiancé is other than token sassy female character out of place in a period piece. Eric Bana has an almost meaningless role, which is kind of weird since he was a second lead just a few years ago. The movie is 20 minutes too long, and the accents are all over the place.
All that said, the underlying story is incredible, making this movie worth watching. I don't want to give away the plot, but the movie feels like Hollywood fantasy but it is actually almost entirely accurate, and the story is well told.
